U Joints

I am getting ready to install a 3.73 posi into my 72 Camaro. The rear is out of a 77 Z28. If I have my facts right, the u joints are different...I either have to have my driveshaft modified or get a driveshaft from a later model. Am I correct?

You need a "conversion" u-joint. They sell them almost everywhere. I think it's 1310 on one side and 1330 on the other, but I could be wrong. Do a search on "conversion u-joint" and see if that helps.

El Guapo is right, you need a bastard joint (conversion u- joint)

Every brand has them. You just have to know what you need, or find a parts guy in a store thats willing to help.

When I done my 88 camaro, I had a hard time finding a U joint to go from the stock little u joints on the 7.5" rear/driveshaft with inside clips to the big joints of a th-400 trans yoke with outside clips.

I got lucky. A real car guy works at my local auto zone, and me and him spent about 30. min sitting on the floor in front of the u joints going through each one till we found the sizes I needed.

As a note.. Dont buy cheap joints, or ones with the zerk grease fitting in them. Get the "brute force" joints form auto zone. Forged solid body, bigger bearings, etc

Get a brute force for the front, not the rear. I'ld rather blow a $15 cheapo UJoint than twist my drive shaft or grenade my rear end. Just my $.02.
