I need a "Rack" Kit

Hello Guys,

I went to start my Camaro this morning and when I turned the key I heard an unfamiliar very disturbing sound. The sound was not my engine and my ignition switch just turns freely back and forth.
I pulled the steering wheel got done to the switch and the shaft of the plastic gear the goes into the ignition is broken. I was told that a Rack Kit will have that gear and the notched rod that I believe aligns with gear which, by the way, is also broken.
The auto part stores told me it is a dealer part. I called a Chevy Dealership to hear that part has been discontinued, check with auto parts stores.
Anybody know where I can find a Rack Kit.
I guess I should share that it is a 76 without a tilt wheel, 3 speed manual trans on the floor.
Thanks,
Jack

Mike,
That looks like the gear. Tomorrow I will remove the broken gear to verify. Super. Any ideas about the lever that has the teeth that engages with the gear. I broke off the top three teeth trying to get the car to start. I was instructed to pull the lever up. When that didn't work and trying to change my grip to push the lever down the top part broke off. I appreciate the help.

Thanks,
This is the first time I have had this kind of problem. I do not have a tilt wheel and it is a manual transmission, 3sp on the floor. Will the tilt wheel parts work with a standard (non-tilt) steering column? I thought I read they are than not interchangeable. If it will work I trust you guys, you are more familiar and experienced than I.

I have a non tilt column sitting in my shed with the ignition switch tumbler removed. If these parts you need are still in it, you are welcome to it. I'm behind Round Rock Nissan.
Any chance your 76 is blue?

The parts are different for the non-tilt column. (I missed that in your original post.)

The non-tilt piece won't work in a tilt column but I don't know if you can swap the other direction.

Hey Kirk,

Yes, my Camaro is blue, Lt. Met Blue with the T-Tops if that the one you are referring to. You're right behind Round Rock Nissian. We do not live too far from each other. I'm on the east side of 35 up University Blvd right off of Eagles Nest.
Let me know when we can get together. I'll send you a PM

Thanks Kirk,
Jack
