No problems with a 454, but it's a lot cheaper and easier to use a 350. If it were me and I had the money, I'd go with a big block every time. Where I live, I can pick up a 350 for very cheap or even free, whereas a 454 core engine runs anywhere from $700 to $1200. Seems like everything involving a 454 costs more and is harder to find.
Then there's mileage. A 350 generally gets better gas mileage than a big ol' 454.
What kind of fuel is available over there? Here, the best fuel we can get at a regular gas station is 94 octane.

Hi
Im wondering if I change the exhaust pipe size how it will affect the quality of the sound ?
As I said before my engine is 250 cid inline six and im running dual exhaust pipe along with two glasspack mufflers and the pipe diameter is 2.5
If I change 2.5 to 2.0 how will be the sound ?
If I change 2.5 to 3.0 how will be the sound ?
Do I need to change the pipe all over or only after the muffler ?
Thanks .

I would not move to the 2.0 pipes, especially if you are putting a V8 in the car. 2.5 inch exhaust from front to back are usually adequate for street performance use, even on 350-454 V8s. 3.0 pipes on the inline six will sound like a farm tractor, in my opinion. I know you like the idea of putting a 350 or 454 in the car, but I would keep the inline 6, just because it is so different. As another member stated, there are companies here in North America that specialize in high performance inline 6 engines.

Hi
Finally a have decided to prepare my camaro for mile drag racing .
For this purpose I have to upgrade engine , transmission , ring and pinion .
Usually I buy stuff from www.summitracing.com please give some advise and help to buy following items :

1-camshaft
2-crank shaft
3-performance pistons size 0.40
4-carb (holley or edelbrock or Rochester)
5-headers ( length and style)
6-clutch pressure plate and disk . I have 4 speed Saginaw manual gear box .
7-ring and pinion ratio. Im running 15 41 now and I need mor acceleration .
8-ignition system .

I will be really happy if you guys separate the parts in order of priority .
Many thanks .

As far as engine parts you're going to get dozens of opinions. A camshaft with over .500 lift is going to cause vacumn problems. .030 over pistons are more common and therefore cheaper. Hypereutectic are the way to go now. Steel crankshaft if you're going to get on it everyday, cast if it's only going to be once and awhile. Balancing is good. Holley carb, they're easy to work on. Hooker headers are good. Clutch/pressure plate ? I run automatics so can't help there. 3.73 gears are a good all around gear, 4.11's if you want to push it a little and still drive it on the street. I ran 4.56/4.88's but didn't drive the car everyday. MSD ignition box. Of course all of the above has it's pros and cons. Good luck.

Hi
Need some help for rear end gear ratio.
Im running a V8 350 wit q jet Rochester carb together 4 speed manual transmission .
I have 15/41 rear end gear ratio without locking system .
For ¼ mile drag racing 15/41 or 13/41 you recommend ?
Locking will help to reduce spinning ?
In general locking system on rear end will affect what parameters ?
