Need Info On How To Properly Install A Turbo

Hi all.

Well its winter so nows when i spend the next 3 months figuring out what to buildup over the winter. I was kinda thinking about building a boosted smallblock.I got a sbc400 (511 casting) block laying around.
Is it really that hard? I can probly make 95% of the parts my self here at work. I have access to just about every machine you can think of. (lasers, turrets, press brakes, welders you name it we got it).

What do you think? should i? Or is it too much of a headache? If you have any cool article or cool budget buildups post them up. Thx

I know you probably can get away with it, but I'm not sure how strong the 400 block is. If I was going to build a turbo motor I'd probably want something stronger, but then again if I do a turbo motor I'm going to want big horsepower.

yea..... Im not looking to build a 800-1000hp monster. I'm just looking to get my feet wet in the turbo world. There's many myths about the 400 blocks but the fact is: That if you build it rite, you wont have any problems.
I know alot of guys running the hell out of stock 400's with 2 bolt mains.

Thumbs up

Hey I know i am new here but i have been dealing with turbos for a long time and have plenty of experience with them. Even though the majority of my turbo builds have been 4cyl. i have built two boosted sbc's. Turboing any car is a cake walk. Tuning and having all the parts work together is the fun stuff.
Here are some pics of my daily driver

Specs:
B18A1 Block
Eagle -4cc pistons
Eagle forged crank
Eagle H-Beam rods
Ebay turbo manifold
Hybrid t3/t4 turbo
Tial wastegate
Greddy BOV
DSM side mount Intercooler
DSM450 cc injectors
Skunk 2 cams
MegaSquirt control unit

430HP/28psi peak at 7700rpm

The SBC I built for my 85 Camaro Specs
350 Block
Eagle Forged rotating assembly
2.02 DH heads
Comp cams 235 int./249 exh dur. cam
Garret gt35r ball bearing turbo
Tial wastegate
Ebay BOV
Custom made manifolds
Intake and TB from vette
greedy electronic boost controller
Rc 800cc injectors
Custom oil pan for oil return line
Compete pcv w/ catch can system
8" Front mount intercooler
Megasquirt Control unit
And a lot of other odds and ends

513HP @ 18psi

what are you basic plans for the car? What kind of hp are you looking for? I will help you the best i can. But i need to know your plans first.

go strong on the bottom end

A 350 4 bolt main, forged crank, pink rods, forged 'dished' pistons. Gotta go with the strong bottom end or its gonna fail, trust me. (ask me.....)

Heads don;t matter- 194 are ok with a turbo-set up, since you have all the flow. Chrome molly pushrods. Guide plates and screw in studs.

lots of carb (780) and water injection helps a lot.

You can push around 8psi on a stock bottom end and it should be fine.
