New project "The Distractorator"

Me and my kids came up with the name, it is a cartoon thing and based on the fact that it is backburnering my 72 for a bit.

Ok so I was messing around on ebay and looking at stuff like I always do and I found this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...1895&viewitem=
I found it interesting and decided to watch it. It wound up selling for 7K and I went "wow seems like a hell of a deal for 7K I shoulda got that" Well then I was messing around on ebay a couple days later and there it was again listed for 7500 BIN. I looked at it some more and showed it to my wife. She said buy it. Who am I to argue with a woman? Since I'm not crazy I bought it. Went and picked it up this weekend. Here are some pics of its homecoming

The trim tag is missing so I can never really sell it as a z28 but I am pretty sure it was one, it has swaybar mounts in the rear although the swaybar is gone. A curious car for sure, but the floorpans are solid as are the trunk extensions. The guy said in his ad on ebay they were rusted but he had the car confused with another project. The center of the floorpan will need replaced as it is thin. There are a few rust bubbles from some poor prep before the paint job. I am going to do my best to patch them up for now with a full on repaint in the somewhat distant future. For now I have to install an A/C and a stereo. And I have to do something with the chrome on the engine. Man I hate stamped chrome valve covers and air cleaners, they never last.

The engine (for now...)

and the first project is...........

(oh yeah, technically this one belongs to the wife... "wink")

are those the Year One panels? I'd love to see some detail pics of the inside and trim. That's what I plan on getting myself as soon as I saw them in the catalog.. but you can only see so much in a 1 inch picture.

No problem I will get some pics up this evening. The holes for the door handles are not cut out, and the holes for the door locks are not even marked. I think I like em anyway. I just need to figure out how to get em on and not mess them up. The other thing is how I am going to get the window felts on, guess I will probably just screw them on cuz staples may not do very well in ABS

Don't forget to get rid of the fan also! I've seen them come apart too many time.

Nice looking starting point!

I saw an article years ago where they used some type of a soft steel wire, like safety wire or something.. but they poked or drilled two small holes, fed the wire through, and twisted it tight on the backside. Make sure the felt side is flattened, and it should look damn close to a staple.

Sounds like a plan. I will probably try that. I will post pics and all.

That dash is different, but it looks cool as hell. Keep us posted on how hard those door panels end up being. Good buy

Ok guys, as promised more detailed pictures of the "Year One one piece door panels with comfort weave" A note, the comfort weave is not cloth it is textured vinyl. I was looking everywhere for better pics of these before I sprung for em. Hopefully I can help somebody out who is considering them.

Sorry they are dusty from being in my garage. They are very thick and seem durable.
