Factory Gauge Harness Connector

I just spent the last hour or so doing a wire check on this 12 wire connector. I'm swapping out to aftermarket gauges and I needed to know which wire was for what in that connector. Thought this might help others when they do the swap.
My '71 had the factory U14 gauges.

#1 Brown - Tach Lead
#2 Green/White - Temp Gauge to Sender
#3 Pink - 12volts switched from #8
#4 Tan/Black - Fuel Level Gauge to Sender
#5 Gray - Dash/Gauge Lights
#6 Black - Ground

#7 Tan - Emergency Brake Light
#8 Pink (2) - 12volts switched - looped to #3
#9 Light Blue - Left Signal Light
#10 Light Green High Beam Light
#11 Blue - Right Signal Light
#12 Blue/White - Oil Light to Sender

Thanks a million for this thread. Although my color diagram is odd, this helped me hook up my gas gauge that I bought for my 75 camaro.

I'll surely be posting follow ups when I drive a distance and test the gauge

Are you sure that´s the AMP gauge contact?

Since i switched to a U14 my temp meter dosent work.
to my pin #2 goes a dark green wire. not a green/wihte. Are there any diffrent betwene AC and non AC cars?

Yep, positive on the amp gauge connector. Here's a pic of the backside of the amp gauge showing the conector pins:

The wiring diagram in the '71 Assembly Manual refers to that #2 wire as DG (dark green). No mention of the white stripe. Others have mentioned the same thing with the temp wire and also the tan fuel gauge wire that on mine was tan with a black stripe. I re-connected the original gauge sender wires to my new gauges and they all work.
You may need to swap the sender (different for gauges) for the temp gauge to work.

A bit off topic...but any idea off hand where the console light plugs into? I know its behind the dash somehwere, should I have a connector for it hanging around somewhere there?

Many years ago when I took out my console I cut those wires and forgot about them. I found them as I was cleaning up the wiring. Mine are white and orange (same circuit as the door switch/dome light) and they exit the under dash harness on the right side of the steering coluum down behind the large coluum wire connector. Hope that helps.

Ok. Looking att your firts picture i can see some diffrets to mine. ( mine was a 1976 gauge)

I tryed to change the temp gauge sender to a gauge sender but it dosent work. Next step for me are changing the wire from the sender to the gauge.

I got a 71 and swapping from dummy gauges to the u14 swap. If I just match my wires to how you posted in the first post it'll work? Thanks

Pretty much... You need a new temp sender unit too.

It's a sending unit which is screwed into a port on the head or intake.
(Stock position is between cyls 1 & 3, in the head, between the exhaust ports.)

It connects to the temp gauge electrically to give the gauge a signal.
The sending unit for an idiot light won't work for a gauge cluster.
