No one is making the reverse lockout rod at this time, I looked into it but to do it right you need to hammer forge the ends and the cost was way to high for the number of rods you could sell.
Yes the last four numbers are stamped into the lockout rod. 5618

Wow , Thanks for the fast response, Jack. So that would be a "no repo" on the upper rod 5624, as well?

No one does the upper rod either, but they are way easier to find then the lower.

Jim Stubbins over at Heartbeat City was making a nice and correct lower lockout rod for 1st Gen Camaro's. I wonder if he would be willing to reproduce the 2nd Gen lower rod since he already has the proper tooling.

The lower rod is reproduced, they are on ebay now and then along with the bellcrank. I believe the company is called Chicago Muscle Car Parts? The lower rod from a 69 camaro (with Muncie) is the same, but different part #'s. I have done two of these swaps using the 69 rod.

David Nelson, First I read where somebody was claiming that 69' lower rod was SAME AS 70/71 Lower Rod...........(with exception of part #) Hmmmm!!!!

To all of you, how many other years was 5624 upper used with same bellcrank assy as 1970.....and guess I need to study AIM to see what set up was used with T350/400 to lock out steering wheel ??????

First of all the 1970-74 muncie lower reverse lock out rod is stamped 5618 for the 3975618 rod - 1969 Camaro with muncie uses 3955733 reverse lock out rod for Z28 and 3955755 for SS 386 Camaros.

If the 69 lower reverse lock out rod were the same for 1970 Camaro with Muncie trans the part number would have been the same

1969 Camaros use the same subframe as the 1968-72 Nova, the 1970 Camaro-up subframe is different and would require a diffferent lever assembly attached to the subframe and a completely different lower lock out rod

Maybe you can make a 69 reverse lock out rod fit on a 1970, i don't know and would never try, but it won't look right no matter what

The picture of the lower lock out rod offered by "Thepartsplaceinc" does not even look close to the "5618" where is the bend in the rod, their rod looks to straight

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...9093&viewitem=

The upper rod 5624 was used on 1970-74 Z28 as listed in the Chevrolet Parts catalog dated June 1974

As stated in my previous post,of course the #'s stamped on the rods are different. Have I put the 70 rod next to the 69 rod no. I said the 69 lower rod will function exactly like the 70 version. I did not stumble upon this by accident. Many years ago when I was looking for the rod for my own car,I was told by a gentleman who sells camaro parts in Calf. to use the 69 rod. It fit "exactly" and operated correctly, with no modification.Since then I have used the same rod on another car, same results.Next time my car is on lift I will gladly take pics.

Most all of you have made your good points..........conclusion is:

No one makes a accurate repop with the stamped #'s 5618

69 part will fit and work

EBAY repop part claims to fit and work

Jack Seymour obtained the G.M. blueprint, researched the expense and says they are too expensive to repop ACCURATELY........

Bottom line, only place these get looked at and/or judged is Carlisle. No other show points system in the country cares.

Thanks guys,

The 69 Camaro reverse rod may fit a 1970 but is not physically the same as shown in the pics below - The bends are different

M21RSZ

Below is a pic of the 69 reverse rod assembly sold by D&R Classic and shows the bend in a different location

Yes they do and although not exact, it works. The correct address is 112 Elm St. Was my place of employment for a few years. Had a lot of fun and met a lot of great Camaro people.
