look ma, LED TAIL LIGHTS! how to.....

so after refusing to spend 500 bucks for dse led tail lights i figured there had to be a better option. so after searching and contemplating for months during random stops at the parts store i saw these.


part number NV-5104R purchased at PEP BOYS for 24 bucks.

1. cover the kitchen table so i am allowed to keep the camaro.
2. pop out the tail light from the bucket.
3. dissassemble the new light. remove retaining ring, unscrew lense......hope you can figure out the rest of that process....
4. slide LED board into the bucket.
5. have a celebration beer.
6. figure out how to mount led board.

so imediate conclusion, for 50 bucks and a little time we can have LED tail lights!

i believe the 2 1/2 " LED "marker lights" that are on the market will work just fine for the reverse lights. so at this point, we just need to find a way to mount the boards into the bucket. probably using the origional screws that hold the lense and some retaining straps should do the job.

simply pluged the wires into the tow hitch wiring on my 94 gmc......and wahloa!

now the disclamer, i only played around long enough to take a pic, i did not find a way to get them to work as running lights although the packages says that they are also tail lights so? just was excited and wanted to post asap!

left the lights on today and killed the battery!think i just justified a jump box.

thats cool... but for $59 you can get some made for our cars thats a dual light pattern and its a "plug and play" so no extra cut/splicing/harnesses...
just a thought

understand but then it falls into the "i bought it" instead of the "i did it" category. but when it comes down to it, they look like a great option

That looks like over a c-note.


LED's are cheap. I could make 4 circit boards for under ten bucks, Stuff each one with 20 LED's add solder, a couple connectors and say I made em. Sounds like a plan!

well, with my electrical lackings i am just happy if the light bulb lights up when i turn the switch on, or is it off? lights look good mark
