Someone help a Newbie!
First off, forgive me if I ask any stupid question, this is my first project car and I'm kinda lost on what to do next. I have a 79 z28 that I have completely disasembled. The body has been soda blasted and is on a body dolly waiting for body work. I have a couple of areas that need patching and a few dents. My problem is that the body has already began to get surface rust on it. Should I go ahead and prime it now and grind off the primer to weld in the patches or weld them in asap and then primer (might be a couple of weeks)? Also, I have a spray gun but I'm not sure what kind of primer I need and how to mix it. Any help is greatly appreciated

There are several ways to do this. You could spray an epoxy primer on the car until you are ready to weld in the patches/repairs your are doing. Then sand the area off where the welding needs to be done and you should be just fine.
I used a product called prep step that i get. I have sanded the entire car done to bare metal and then sprayed this on to prevent rust. It has been like this for 8 months now with no rust showing. It does something to the the metal to give it the right ph balance before I usually spray it with ZeroRust.

prep step is product you mix with water and then use a regular spray bottle. No spray gun or anything else needed. You can even wipe it on with a towel.
Here is the link where i get it from:

can you primer right over it, or do you have to sand it off first?
