Chopped windshield/sideglass ?
This was posted in one of the hot rod forums I peruse (peruse, like that? I'm so edgamacated) about chopped a windshield. But that info generally applied to older pre-safety glass cars. Does anyone know a good source for info OR a reliable shop where I can have this done? Most glass companies won't touch this.
I also need info on chopping the side glass. I've heard a sandblaster would work but I would think the vibration would shatter it.

All automotive windshields from the late 30's on have been safety glass (laminated glass), it is possible to cut them but its not easy. Some shops may try and do it for you if you keep bringing them windsheilds till they get it right. As for the side glass, its tempered and Cannot be cut, there are thoughs who say it can but I have yet to see it. If the glass was flat i would say just make patterens and take them to your local glass shop and they can cut you new windows out of laminated flat glass. I know this is possibel because I use to work in a glass shop and now own my own tools and grinder for doing this stuff on for myself and customers

The side glass is tempered. I'd make a metal template to cut against with a sandblaster and have it tried on a junkyard side glass, maybe it will work - why not try?

Sometimes, if you chop the top without leaning the windsield back. You can get away with using the stock side glass. Just make a stop so it wont go all the way up. You can also get away without cutting a windshield by leaning the windshield back instead of taking inchs out of the pilar.

you can not cut tempered glass. you can grind down, at your own risk, up to 1/4", depending on the quality of the glass and tempering.. anymore and it will blow.

Boy that's be something if you ground it just short of shattering, reintalled it, and then when you hit your first good pothole it expolodes on you...
I wonder if you were to heat it back up, if you could take the temper (and stress) out of it.

In my humble opinion... A 2nd gen is a poor candidate for this mod.
It's hard enough to get the side windows to fit/seal right when the shape is correct.
Cars with flat side windows and full window frames in the doors are much better for this type of customization.
