Detailing question.

My car is equipped with the hurricane type wheels and the painted part is in pretty good shape. I need to replace the center caps which is not biggie and the lug nuts are in great shape. The aluminum part though looks weathered. It appears there is a clear coat on them. Has anyone had any luck with polishing this before? What type of business would refinish these wheels?

There are wheel restoration places around the country.... Most charge about $400 to refinish a set of 4.

Those places bead-blast the entire wheel, Powder coat the base color, cut a new finish on the edges and powdercoat clear. They look like new!

I cheaped out on it though....

You can use fine steel wool to remove most of the stained/chipped/faded clear and brush touch-up clear on the edges again. I did this with my N90s and they turned out pretty good.

Thanks, mine look good but the aluminum parts have some cloudyness to them. I will try the fine steel wool. That stuff works wonders. What is a N90 wheel?

Ahhhhh. So what is the proper term for my wheels. Hurricane or Turbine or is there a part number?

I think a "Hurricane" has been used for the name of several similar looking aftermarket wheels.

"Turbine" is what I've always heard when talking about the factory Camaro wheels.

Thanks. I've been going back and fourth on this and I think I am going to switch to the five spokes. I know where I can get some, so now I have to factor in the trim rings and caps and having the blasted. I think these will set the car off with the beige paint on the car and the wheels. Anyone think I can get anything for my "turbine" wheels?

N90's is the correct name. Turbine well look complety different, just look at the wheels on the GEN. LEE

But the N90 Aluminum wheels look soo much cooler! Don't switch to the steelies!

As far as the "Turbine" wheels are concerned I've only heard that relate to the hard to find 1979 Z28 Aluminum multi-spoke wheels; speaking of which if anyone on here has them on their MINT Z28 I propose you post photos!

Imo stay with the Turbines they are a rare rim to find and are much lighter than the steelies....
The cloudiness/dullness in the clear coat is from using the wrong type of wheel cleaners on an aluminum clear coated wheel such as an acid based product also the years of sun beat the hell out of the clear...
Best thing to do is to totally remove it all, paint and clear coat...

Wow, you really put your foot into those wheels. They look good when they are done up. Did you make off each individual spoke? What did you use to strip off the clearcoat and what paint did you use? You had to know this bombardment of questions had to be coming if you show off a killer ride like that. Here is my car. I'm kind of changing my mind on the steelies. Today i'm going to look for a wheel resto shop and get a quote.
