1974 LT Z28 emblems
Does anyone have any old pics of how a 74 Type LT Z28 would be correctly badged from the factory without the D88 graphics? The only pics I ever find are either D88's or non Z's.
Mainly looking for front and rear views. The sides are easy...LOL!!!
Thanks much!!!

SledZ28 that is a VERY good question for which I have an answer but no digital pics to upload at this point. I just went upstairs and revisited a copy of 'High Performance Cars' magazine issued April 1974. Their 'High Performance Car of the Year' was the 1974 Type LT Z28 Camaro. They acknowledge the Pontiac Trans Am SD455 as a worthy opponent, but gave the award to the 'high winding L82 small block' 74 Z28 Camaro. Cool! There are 3 Type LT Z28 Camaros used in the article. Two do not have the D88 option. And the other is of course a Type LT Z28 with D88 graphics. It clearly shows the following. 74 Z28 Type LT Z28 without the D88 graphics option has only the center grill emblem as do all 74 Camaros. The rear has the Type LT emblem on the right rear tail panel. And that is all. Of course without the D88 graphics the 74 Type LT Z28 also got the Z28 emblems on the front fenders. Only the 74 Z28 without Type LT and without D88 got a Z28 'decal' below the 'Camaro' emblem on the right rear tail panel. Hope this helps. I could try taking pics of the mag but it is in black and white and i'm not sure of how it would turn out.

Thanks much. I am pretty sure my car was originally a D88 car, cuz the fender emblems were mounted too far forward. They aren't centered on the fender. The front had a grey grill with an emblem that I know came from a different car. I bought a replacement black grill and added a 73 Z28 Grill emblem which I really like the look of. But the rear kind of threw me for a loop. The rear panel has a Type LT emblem with a foil Z28 decal directly below it and I know I read somewhere that that was a "factory possibility". I plan on doing a full restoration to this car in a few years, but for now I just want to play with it. I know now I need to finish building my garage or wait out the rainy weather till I tear into the car to HOPEFULLY find a build sheet hiding in it before doing any resto.
Thanks again!!

I am the original owner of my '74 Type LT/Z28 without the stripes. Z28 Dude's description is exactly how my Z was badges from the factory. Z28 emblems on both fenders, and Type LT emblems on both sail panels and by the right tail light. Don't forget the two horizontal rear trim pieces that run between the tail lights. (Type LT trim stuff) These are impossible to find now, as far as I know.
When I had the car repainted, the rear tail light panel paint was still good, so we masked that section off and did not repaint it, just to save these two trim pieces.

Hey Doug,
I noticed that LT's had that trim, but mine does not. They were probably lost in the left quarter job and repaint that happened years ago which is when I'm guessing they put on Chevelle syle SS stripes and the emblems incorrectly. I'm patient, I'll find all my missing pieces. Besides needing a complete black inerior. Someone along the way changed it to a blue and white combo that is in nice condition, and usable for now. I want it back to original. All the black plastic pieces they painted blue are flaking. I might be able to save those since they didn't spray them correctly.

Hey Sled,
Good luck finding those LT trim pieces. The originals look to be glued on (or double sticky tape?) from the factory as I see no studs inside. Probably NOS is going to be the way to go as taking them off a car would likely distroy them in the process.

74 Type LT Z28 emblems
WMCC Doug is absolutely correct for info on Type LTZ28. I too am original owner of 74 Type LTZ28 that I ordered, and that is how mine came from the factory. In regards to 74Z28 Dude Hi Perf. magazine info. he too is correct, however even though all 74 literature says 74Z28 emblems are deleted with D88 stripes I have seen a few new 74 Z28's on the lots with the D88 stripes and fender Z28 emblems nevertheless. That is what I remember. Also the foil Z28 decal was placed beneath the script Camaro on the right side rear panel for coupe Z28's only without D88 striping. Hope this information helps.

Here is a pic of the back of my '74 Type LT/ Z28.
OK, first off, I know they did not come with a Z28 emblem on the left side tail light panel.
I was 21 years old when I bought this car new (my first new car!) and at the time, I was disapointed it didn't say Z28 on the back anywhere. So I did what everyone did back then, I started to modify my new Camaro. One trip to our local Chevy dealer (Berger Chevrolet) and one new Z28 emblem later, I solved my "problem" LOL Then in about 1980, I wanted to do some "custom paint" work on the car, and had a graphic painted on the hood (as well as an '80 Z28 hood scoop, molded in). At that time, I had the same three colors as used in the graphics, painted on as stripes between the tail lights. I thought it looked nice then, and still do.
The pic shows the original Type LT trim pieces (along the top and bottom of tail light panel) we were talking about in this thread.
I am in the process of doing a Pro-Touring resto-mod on the car right now, so the un-original-ness of the stripes and left side Z28 emblem is not a concern to me now, either. I hope to have the car done in the spring, and would love to bring it to Carlisle. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

WMCC Doug
Is the Z28 'addition' to the left tail panel an emblem or the period correct chevy dealer purchased decal? It looks like the 74Z decal? I ask because the aftermarket 'decals' I bought have a silver outline around the 'Z28'. Yours does not. Any insight? Thanks!

It's a metal fender emblem, not a sticker.

Hey guys, Thank you so much for all the info and advice. I like the emblem on the back of your Z Doug; looks good. My car has a Z28 foil decal right below the rear LT emblem and it looks pretty good. I picked up an NOS one off Ebay incase I want to go that route later. I'm still not sure how I will set up the car when I get going on the restoration, but that is at least two years away. I'm in the middle of building a new three car garage just for my toys and I'm hoping to be able to get the car in there in a couple weeks and tear into it looking for a build sheet. Right now the car runs with a very nasty 350 (came in the car and it was deckd so I can't verify if it's #'s matching or not). So for now I'm gonna play with it while collecting all the parts that it needs. [Which reminds me; anybody know where I can get a pair of black door panels?] Can't wait to get it to the drag strip and see what it'll do. I'm guessing from my other cars that it'll run High 11's to low 12's. Well, lunch break is over gotta get back to work.
Have a great day!

Thanks WMCC Doug
I then have a question. Does the original Z28 Decal placed below the 'Camaro' script emblem have a silver outline around the Z28?

Hmmm ........ I don't remember, right off the top of my head. I have an original NOS sticker/decal out in my back garage. I'll take a look out there soon and get back with you.
Sled: I would think the Z28 sticker under your Type LT emblem was probably added later. That's where the stickers were placed on the non-Type LT Z28's. Someone may have added it back in the day, like I did with the Z emblem on the left side of mine?

74 Z28 dude,
Sorry this took so long to get the answer you wanted. I finally got out in the garage and dug this stuff up. Here is a photo showing the original sticker package, w/part number, and an un-used sticker above the one on the air cleaner lid. I bought these stickers at the dealer sometime in 1974-75 time frame when I bought a '73 Z28 air cleaner assembly to replace my original dual snorkel air cleaner. (I always liked the open element air cleaner) I installed the Z28 sticker on the lid then. Sadly, you can see the lid didn't fare too well over all these years, but I have a replacement, so I'm good to go there.
To answer your question directly, the sticker has a black border around the edge of the whole thing.
