Cleaning Polishing Wheels?

I recently picked up an aluminum polish kit that comes with the various sized wheels and what not to polish out a set of wheels, but the problem I'm having is I can get maybe 1/2 a wheel done before the polishing wheel turns completely black and pretty much stops working. Is there a way to clean them?

I'm using those cotton wheels and the black residue is stuck on there like glue, not sure if there is a proper way to clean them or not.

corn starch powder will remove left over polish on the wheels keeping both the polishing cones and the wheels ,also the corn starch will leave the rims looking even better

Don't clean the cones at all. The cone is supposed to load up with compound. The compound does the work, the cone is just a way to hold it. I have been around metal finishing shops my whole life. Carn Starch is new to me but not using powder to clean left over compound off.

I used the word cone because i didn't want buffing wheel and car wheel to get confused. Same deal.
