I had my Vortec's done and picked them up yesterday. Valve job, surfaced and had them cut down for a .550 lift cam....cost me right at $110. I had new LT4 springs, retainers and keepers from SD (~$55) and my seals.

My vortec experiance..
I bought a whole vortec motor for 100.00.. ported them heads myself..Borrowed the valve guide cutting too to obtain .550 or better lift..Spent 150.00 in machine work to mill and tap the stud bosses for screw in studs..Installed guideplates and studs..Lapped the valves and polished the back side...Installed cc 981 - 16 .500 lift springs as my solid stick is .500 lift...(for now)..
I have around 195. bucks in them ..
Im think they will support 450 or better HP with torque numbers to matck on a 355...

Mine would have been a Lot less if I had NOT gone to a 2.02 / 1.6 valves. I had to buy 16 new valves plus bowl work... I think the cost alone for that was about $280.

cmonson,
Even if you don't get the car ready in time, you should head on up there on Sundays. Soaking up the sun on the patio, listening to the band, or DJ, and watching all the old cars roll in is heavenly! I got a blue 69 Camaro with Weld Draglite Racing wheels... just for future reference. I'm sure I'll see you there at some point. I just won't know who I'm looking at

Man, a 67 SS. That'd jump to first on my to-do list. Can't remember when I've even seen one of those.

the idea is I am learning on my 1980, plus saving up for the 67. I didn't want to touch it until I had $7K, a larger garage (upgrading house in 2009).which should cover the body and motor for a restored driving condition...

It also is original with 36K miles, 4 speed, 350CI, and a true SS. Even with Tigerpaws...

I would believe that is an SS/RS or RS/SS however you want to look at it. All in all a good candidate for some serious resto work. Make your Granpappy proud and do a good job, don't sell out for some quick change.

Very nice! Theres another buddy of mine who has a red 68 Camaro RS/SS with the black stripe around the grille who goes to Quaker Steak every Sunday too. Looks just like yours. I have a stupid question... Is that correct SS emblem on the front? I didn't know they made a 350 in 67. No big deal either way. Nice car!
Are you going to sell the '80' when your done and put that into the '67' or are you keeping both?

Manic,
You have pics of that 71 Pontiac? Talk about rare.... I haven't seen an early 70-73 Firebird/Trans Am at a car show for a long time.

NO WAY... I have owned my 80 since I was 16. I am now 30. I know an 80 probably won't ever be a classic car, but it is deffinately a classic to me!!!

The 1967 engine options were everything from a 230CU I6 to a 396 (375hp)

other engines were also a 250CI I6, a 302 and a couple versions of a 327.

Mine was original with a 295hp 350CU...

Really! Well I guess you learn something everyday. It doesn't matter if an '80' is a classic... its what you like. I wasn't implying you should sell it, I was curious *if* you were selling it.
