79 Camaro Tilt Wheel Assy Switch

My 79Z has a tilt column and the key will not turn to the assy location.It does start fine and the steering wheel will lock.Any ideas what could be wrong.

Ignition cylinder is probably cracked like mine was.

Eventually it will jam up and not work at all.
Pull your steering wheel off , and get in the column and inspect it.
Once you take off the steering wheel, and locking plate, and turn signal cam, it's literally just 1 pin to push.

Replacement ignition cylinders are only ~$25 iirc. It's worth it, trust me. 100x nicer now.

Be careful though because 9 out of 10 auto part stores carry one that
doesn't lock into place properly. I know because I just went through this adventure.

There's plenty of threads on how to do this, use the search if you need to find them.
