For the first time in years
For the first time in years, I got it at least turned over.
Wed through two (drill) batteries getting it oiled back up, and after accidentally hooking the jumper cables backwards, (killing another battery in the process), the engine rotated again. Too windy to go any further today, but it's a start.
Now I just need - Carb
- Distributor
- Plug wires
- Cooling system flush
- Oil Change
- New battery
- A/C Compressor
- Seat Belts
- & on & on

Not too bad of a list. Post up some pics and keep the fire burning.

Got it running briefly. (a float bowl full at a time)
Valves are all out of whack, sounds like ass.
Speaking of Fire burning:
backfires If I give it too much throttle, dies at part throttle.
More things I noticed - Left brake light is working backwards (no right)
- Tach is reading double what it should
- Battery won't hold a charge (blaming it on the brake light)
- Choke? what choke? may as well leave it off!
- My key is now stuck in the lock and the lock is stuck in the "unlock" position.

Try rotating the outer steering column couter-clockwise by hand.
My key used to get stuck all the time and I found out my linkage was a bit out of adjustment and not allowing the column to fully rotate and unlock the key cylinder. A quick adjustment and...voila, no more key sticky!

As far as your tach reading double .... does the tach itself have a selector switch for 4,6 or 8 cylinders ? I have seen these when on the wrong setting make it read incorrectly like this.

Spray a little WD40 around the key so it works it's way into the lock. If that doesn't do it, just pull the inner door panel and pop the clip off the tumbler and pull it out. A locksmith can get it out then.

Looks like my fuel pump is bad also.
rigged an electric for now.
This got it running long enough to verify that the valves are quieted down.
The timing is all over the place. I still get a backfire ever so often also.
bounces everywhere between 6° adv and 2° ret. at what is a near approximation of idle. what can cause this? It's a new dist...
EDIT: Went back and checked, smells like gas in the oil, guess the pump diaphragm ruptured, an oil change is next.
