Normally I would have put the housings in the parts washer and done a much better clean up job. I don't have access to one this weekend and this is my daily ride so it was a wham bam type deal today.

excellent diy post mr. dave. thanks for taking the time. i always do my own as well. the rear wheel cylinders clean up pretty quickly using the sunnen rod hone mandrals,, if one can hold them from spinning with oily hands!! difference between mechanics and parts changers!!!

Dave, this is freaking awesome. Thanks!!

Coincidentally, a friend of mine is contemplating rebuilding his calipers. Going to forward this to him.

Caliper and wheel cylinder rebuilding is becoming a lost art. This is really great stuff, Dave.

Cool thanks for taking the time to explain things clearly (and with pics), also where did you get the dust boot tool?

I've had that almost 20 years. I would guess it was from one of the the tool trucks. It should be available from any tools supplier.

I have the same tool, it was purchased off the Mac truck. IIRC when I bought it 30 years ago it stated on the package it was new.
