1970 wiring mess

I just picked up a 1970 camaro rs 1/2 way refinished. I am working on the electrical. A aftermarket wiring harness was used.
#1 when you hook up the car battery the rear running(parking) lights and the light under the rear ashtray come on.( with the ignition on or off)
#2 when you pull the headlight switch to the first posistion the front running lights com on when you pull it to the 2nd posistion the headlights come on but the running lights turn off???
What gives ? Thanks

Is the aftermarket wiring harness of good quality? Is it correct for your 70 model and options? Possible shorts in the circuit could cause strange happenings. Check to be sure that all dash grounds are in place too. Refer to assembly manual for details. May also have a bad/ incorrect headlight switch? Just some thoughts...
