70-71 Interior in a 73?

I just acquired a '73 rolling shell (no interior or driveline). I plan on putting an auto tranny in it, but I don't like the '73 console nearly as much as the ealier years (and I want to use the horse shoe shifter).

Seeing how my car is totally stripped and I need to buy an interior anyway, I was thinking about going with the 70-71 interior for the console and the 1-piece door panels (seeing how the lowers are not repro'd). Obviously, I am not going for originality.

I also like the shorter rear spoiler, so I will probably be using that too.

...Will I have any issues with any of this? Will the door panels mount ok?

Thanks,

Phil

You can make the car into anything you want, I do know the horseshoe shifter from the 70 - 72's don't have the same mounting location or pattern as the 73's but that is an easy fix. Also the consoles use different mounting brackets again not that hard to switch over.

Door panels will mount with no problem.

Does the car have a spoiler now ?

I am doing the same thing with my 73. It isn't very hard to do.

You will be looking for this style shifter & brackets to mount the console, door panels will fit you will have to relocate the "L" bracket behind the armrest on the door panel not an issue
First two brackets are bolted, third is spot welded but that can be bolted also

The way the interior was when I got the car

Then after I modified it

The panels are from 73 they fit perfect

Phil,

Since the car doesn't have a spoiler now all you have to do is line up the spoiler on the lid and mark the holes for drilling, but in order for the trunk to raise on it's own you will need to change out the trunk rods with the bigger dia. ones and that can be a pain in the butt.
To find out more on the rods do a search in the body restoration section and you will find all the answers.

I have the correct armrest brackets for the 70-71 door panels if interested.
