Knock

Guys, I need some troubleshooting help. As most of you know, I don't know jack about engine work (yet)...I have a knock somewhere in the valvetrain (a guess), I have the driver side valve cover off, but don't know what to check, or where to start. I would really prefer not to start the engine with the cover off...but if I have to lol, I guess I'll clean up oil...thanks guys!!

go to speed shop and get the clips for the rockers that block the oil holes, that way you can do what you need to do, just dont run them for very long periods of time like that.

Old valve covers with the tops cut out. 1000% better than the deflector clips. Hose or long screwdriver held to the ear with the other touching engine. Track down the location of your noise.

Jim, with the valve cover off, grab each rocker and see if any are real loose. You will have to rotate the engine a few times because 2-3 rockers will be in the open valve position and will be tight. But if any can be moved sideways more than a 1/4 inch this may be whats causing the noise although most valve train noises are ticks, knocks are usually crank/rod problems. Check you pm's.
