cherry bomb mufflers/glasspacks

how would they sound on my car? I have stock mufflers right now and I'm looking for something a little bit deeper and slightly louder

the best glass packs like cherry bomb or purple hornies have a perforated core as this will not restrict the flow

purple hornies are a louvered core = flow restriction. Technically they are a spiral louvered core. You can orient these louvers backwards to restrict less but you still have all the pointy things sticking in the flow path.

There is a thread in the high pro section with a short video of my car running. It has cherry bombs and x pipe.

thrush glasspacks have perforated holes also, no louvers to reduce flow

I always liked the Thrush packs. I think the farther back in the system the better they sound. I have them on my '72 SB Vette and see no reason to change. Not too loud, sounds good.

LOL I've got a pair of cherry bombs that were on one of my parts cars. I'm going to use them as clamp on mufflers when I have an engine on the test stand. Cherry bombs are lound!

Back in the 70's, all the guys that had Jeeps with 304's ran purple hornies. I still remember the sound. Now, I can't imagine that sound coming from a Camaro.

Cherry bombs will sound horrible in a short time, making that ghey glasspack rap and popping noise upon deceleration, and just loud and obnoxious when accelerating.
Acceleration will be hampered with a glasspack muffler as they are quite restrictive to airflow.
A real performance muffler would be a "turbo" muffler.

This is my brother's previous 1966 Dodge Dart with a 318 swap, late model magnum head conversion, and 2.25" duals w/ 18" case cherry bomb brand glass packs.

Do you really want your car to sound like this?

Right, the best, most free-flowing mufflers out there are the smooth perforated inner pipe Walker/Dynomax/Thrush glasspacks of old!

You take a close look at some of the modern, more expensive high performance box mufflers and all they are, are repackaged glasspacks, but they sure cost more!

You ever notice NONE of the newer muffler tests include the old W/D/T smooth inner pipe glasspacks, wonder why??

Maybe it's b/c even tho they are noisy, they flat perform!! And if they are too noisy, mount a short one either before or behind the 1st one to use as a resonator to help quite everything down!!

A dynomax ulraflo may be glass packed but it sure does not sound like a glasspack. That is a good thing. The problem is not the volume level but the tonal quality of a glass pack. flap flap flap flap. 5x9 oval case packed mufflers do not sound like that. With an ultraflo or magnaflow type muffler (oval) you are paying for the extra case volume and packing and it's worth it

Cherry bombs loudness and rap is dependant on the pipe size and location. I have them on a mild 305 with 2.25" pipes that exit behind the rear tires and they are quiet and sound great, with no drone or annoying rap.

I think they sound horrible without tailpipes.

that video above has full tails and that thing went blap lap lap lap lap going down the road. It was extremely loud and echoed off store fronts. My brother did a fly by on the highway when I was in the slow lane, and I had the windows down, and it was ear piercing.

We had the same mufflers above on a 76 Firebird Formula 400, with full tails, and it too was extremely flappy sounding. If the 305 has a stock cam it's probably not opening the valves far enough to get those glasspacks a' rappin.
