how to remove tilt steering assembly?

I've removed the steering wheel, and the assembly directly behind it, (the one the ignition cylinder slides in to), but I can't figure out how to get the assembly behind it off, (the one that the tilt lever comes out of).

I'm trying to remove the piece that surrounds and slides over the steering shaft, and mates with the short round part that comes just an inch or so out from the dash. That is, the part in between the dash and the part that the ignition cylinder goes in to. I hope this is making sense...

Car's a 1978.

Anyway, any help on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.
