383 vs 400 parts dilemna
I currently have my 383 stripped to the bare block for a rebuild as I'm planning on adding nitrous (new rings, head gaskets, bearings, etc).
However I have just got a really good deal on a 400 block (+.030), complete with pistons.
Can I use my 5.7" rods and 3.75" stroker crank from the 383 in the 406? If so I'm hoping the Dart Pro 1 64cc 215 heads and current solid roller will still perform well with the larger block as I can't afford any other new parts...

If the pistons are for standard 400 rods (5.565" I think), then you can't use the 5.7 rods. I would just get 400 pistons for the 5.7 rods. The crank would work with bearing spacers, as it probably has 350 main bearing sizes.
The larger bore should help with breathing and should make more power, all things equal.

Is that a stock 400 block? What casting number is it? There were some issues with stock 400 blocks, most aren't worth building up....especially if your're gonna shoot it!!!

It is a 3951509 block which is one of the desirable ones I believe. The pistons are SRP-138100 which are for 6" rods I think. So I could use the crank if I got some spacer bearings? Are they good for racing?

You have to get 6" rods if thats the case. The 509 block IS the good one, just have it checked out good at the machine shop and if it all checks out, your good to go.

They have been using them in circle track for a while, so you should be able to use them. I would talk with the machine shop to see what they recommend.

I emailed Eagle and looked into the spacer bearing idea but I think I'm going to rebuild my 383 with nitrous, have some fun this year and build the 400 bottom end for next season and spray that also.
For the 400 build I would like to use my Dart Single manifold from the 383 and the same heads;
Dart Pro 1 Heads, 64cc chambers, 215 intake port volume, 75cc exhaust port volume, 2.05 intake valves, 1.60 exhaust valves
And the same cam;
Comp Cams Solid Roller
Duration @ .050 253/260
Lift w/1.6 ratio rockers .684/.686
LSA 107 degrees
Comp Endure X solid roller lifters
What displacement should I look at? I'm guessing keep it to 406..?
