Lincoln handy mig

I am considering buying one of these off craigslist and was wondering if anyone here has one? If so what do you think of this welder?

Yeah,Theres one on craigslist for $175.,I was thinking of offering him $150. and see if he would let go of it. He has the gauges and its set up for gas but no bottle. What would it cost to get set up with a bottle?

I wouldn't fart around over 25 bucks.. it's worth the 175 he is asking.

The welder looks like it will do a nice job. It would be nicer if it was the next step up in the Lincoln line and had fully variable voltage, but if you are good you can do great work on most jobs from heavier metal to sheet metal.
To do sheet metal, you will need to add the gas cylinder to do mig welding. The inner shield wire will work on non-critical work, but the gas is needed for body work.
This is the basic light duty welder that Lincoln has been selling for the past 30 years or so, and there are probably hundreds of thousands of them out there working every day.

You can't really go wrong buying a Lincoln, Miller, or Hobart welder as long as you get a model that serves your needs.

I called the guy and am going to look at it tomorrow as its about 35 miles from my house. It has a cart that comes with it and he has it hooked up to a argon bottle right now so I can try it out using gas. I think I am going to get it. Looks like buying a gas bottle will cost more than the welder though.

Even though I prefer Miller, it is a great price and a good tool to have!

I can't argue with the price he's asking, especially if he gives you the cart with it!

I will be hunting a bottle tomorrow because I got the welder today. I thought about seeing if he would take $150. for it but as you guys said its worth the $175. he was asking so I did not squabble over price. I got over to his house and he had it all hooked up ready for me to try out. Said he bought it for a 66 mustang he was restoring and used it once and ended up laying fiberglass over the spots instead of welding patches. Now I can not wait to play with it tomorrow as its been about 10 years since I last used a welder so I hope I can get a bottle and a helmet tomorrow. Here are a couple pictures of it in its new home.

I ended up buying a 40 cubic foot bottle full of gas for $130.. So when I need a refill he said it will cost only $23.00. All I need now is the helmet.

just rent your bottle. Its cheaper and they will fix any problems with the gauge on the bottle.

Well I found out one reason the guy I bought the welder from could not master the mig. He had it still hooked up for negative polarity (flux cored) welding and was using solid wire with gas.I changed the polarity to positive and it welds much better now.
