weight question
in the middle of my 80 rebuild i was about to order a spring kit for coils and leafs when potentially my 350 may have just bit it. i still need to pull the intake to be sure butif its dead i located a fresh 454 that needs assembly. if i get that could i keep the stock front coils and just change the leafs or do i need to change the front springs. would be aluminum heads of course to shed some fat.

You would need to switch out the front springs. I bought the Hotchkis TVS kit for my 79 and I ordered the one for my ZZ502.
Hotchkis has a TVS kit for small blocks and big blocks.

You can get just springs for the front depending on what you want. You can use spring for a small block if the weight of the bbc is reduced enough to be similar in weight to the sbc that was originally in the car. If the bbc has aluminum heads, intake, headers, no AC where the original small block was all iron, the weight difference will be minimal. The question now is whether the '80 springs, now 28 years old, are really too tired to do their intended job and need to be replaced anyway. There are many different choices with a variety of spring rates and ride heights. Good luck.
