Lipstick!!!

Anybody know how to get lipstick out of a headliner? Tried acetone (actually nailpolish remover, but the same thing, only a bit more diluted) and it didn't work as well as I thought it would.

If you tell me and it works, then I will tell you how it got there.

Thanks a bunch.

Now I know you love your car and all, but don't kiss the headliner.

Once I read about a method for getting it out of clothes. If your headliner is made of fabric it should work too. Place piece of a brown paper bad over the offending spot. Then apply a clothes iron on its lowest setting. Lifting and moving the paper frequently. The idea is that the heat will draw the waxy base to the paper carying the pigment with it. Same process as soldering, tinning, or brazing. Remember to use a LOW setting and dab at the spot.

Hmmmm....sounds like that could work. Any other suggestions?

Try alcohol. Put a small amount on a rag (don't use a lot because you don't want the stain to spread). Blot it on the stain. Use another clean rag and press it on the stain. Repeat - make sure you use a clean part of the rag to blot with. Lipstick is oil based.

If it is a heavy stain, you will probably need to try something else - I have a few more ideas if you need them.

Just a note on the idea of using an iron: Think melted and/or heat-stretched (actually heat sagged in this case) vinyl...

That being said- how about some of the off-the shelf stain removers like a "Prosolve" or such?

how bout trying hair spray? had luck with red ink removal using hair spray

MacDaddy 11-07-2003 01:24:00 AM

Thanks for all the replies!!! Gonna try some out. Thanks a lot guys.

My mom was the one who got the lipstick on the headliner. She was putting on some lipstick and raised her arm up to do something with her hair and dabbed it on the liner. THEN....after she said "Uh oh. You're gonna kill me," she tried to take it out with her NAIL. Like tried to grind it out with her index finger. I had to try really hard not to loose it. Wow. That was definitly hard.

Now wait a minute...that's not quite the explanation I was imagining...

Seriously!! Spot Shot rules!! I haven't found a stain yet that it hasn't removed. Oil, coffee, GA red clay.... Took a watermark out of the back seat of my firends car. Everyone should have some.
