B-spindles

Are the camaro ball joints the same on the b-spindles?

72CamaroSS 12-15-2005 03:18:35 PM

Yes.....

The wheel bearing castle nut is the same if your car is 78 or older.

dave@ronsraceshop 12-15-2005 10:08:06 PM

one thing to think about B- Body Cars have 2 styles one set has the Small outer Bearing and the other has a Larger Outer Bearing for the Rotors but I know AutoZone has the parts for the B- Body Spindles.

I actually took the Spindle in with the rotors and Purchased all bearings seals Nuts Washers Cotter Pins Dust Caps Every thing all at once. Today I'm still running this set up on my camaro

I have the the late model ones that I bought from (gmpartsdirect.com).It has the large outter bearing.

better check the lower ball joint, if I remember right the late model ones have a bigger ball joint

the 95-96 B-body spindle takes a different BJ
the bearings will change by year.
I'm pretty sure that I listed the bearing #s last month
If wanted I can put together a list of which take what

I can't remember off the top of me head if we ever saved anything like this, but check this out - you do up a new post, label it with b-body spindle swap guide or somethign like that, include what donor cars to strip, and extra parts (and part #'s) and post it up. Then let me know, I'll archive it....

EDIT - we have this - http://www.nastyz28.com/2gcog/brake12.html - so look it over and let me know if you can add anything to it. :)

wait a minute, I need some clarification:

Once you have obtained all your parts you must take your new rotors to a machine shop for the following modifications. You must decrease hub diameter from the stock 3.060 inches to 2.780 inches, in order to fit your stock wheels over the hubs. Also you must have the rotor re-drilled to accommodate a 4 inch bolt circle with 7/16 inch studs.

do you really need to get these machined, or is it that when he mentions to just get the 1LE rotors, you will not need the machine work mentioned above? also, bolt circle isn't the same as bolt pattern, is it?

thanks

Lower Ball Joint # k6145

Well the bearings used need to be for the 1LE not for the camaro (though 79 - 92 are all the same)
The spindle needs to be from a B-Body that had 12" rotors which is all 77-94 station wagons and police cars, in 95 the police cars changed lower ball joints to a K6141 which has a different taper and bigger diameter. Some station wagons also recieved this ball joint in 95 and 96.
the 77-94 took a k6145 lower ball joint

My personal preference for a donor is an 88-90 olds station wagon, 3 reasons:
1. Spindles
2. Rear brakes are swapable with use of 73 chevelle station wagon drum
3. most if not all came with a 200-4r and universal bellhousings

outer wheel bearing for the swap is A-3, BR3, or Set 3 depending on which brand you buy
inner wheel bearing for the swap is A-6, BR6, or Set 6 depending on which brand you buy
The 1le rotor # is
Raybestos : 5994
Bendix: 141603
Centric: 120.80003
ACDelco Durastop: 18A286
Aimco : 55008
Autospeciality: AR9003

the 1LE rotors are a no mod neccesary solution

is the correct GM part # for 1LE 18027886? gmpartsdirect lists that for the rotor for an 88 camaro Z-28, but the price is $35 as opposed to Raybestos 5994 for $75... if that's the same rotor, gm direct seems like a heck of the deal, but i suspect it must be wrong...

The same 5994 rotor from rockauto.com is $36.79 each, plus whatever shipping would be.

I have the Factory Upper and Lower ball joints on the B- Spindle. I saw your other post and seem to have the right Spindle All you need now is the 1 LE Rotor. I have 1LE rotors with Slots on my Camaro and they work great If you want call us for the rotors they are direct bolt ons with no mods and their very reasonable priced.

Good Luck

sniggle_t 12-17-2005 01:01:21 AM

Don't forget that the 1LE rotors have metric threads. You can swap them out but need to drill the holes larger. I have the Napa part number and the drill size but am to tired to dig for it right now. I'll try in the AM.
