1974 portal windows and 1976 stripes
Hi all, I have been a long time reader of nastyZ28, this is the first time i have ever ran into something and i have never seen before. the first item is a 1974 camaro with portal windows. i am assuming these are aftermarket. but i have never seen anything like them and i have never seen them in any catalog. any ideas?
Attachment 14024 the second item is the stripes along the rockers on my old 1976 camaro. this pic was 1989 and was my first car. it was a 76 camaro, it has the orignal paint, the stripes were a decal and not painted on. I have seen these on 2 other cars. I know 75 and 76 were the red headed step child years for big bumpers. this car also had F41 suspension, 350 engine and a 4 speed. unfortuntely my dad made me sell it when i joined the air force. (been kicking my self ever since) any ideas on the stripes? Attachment 14023 |
If I was to guess... both were JC Whittney...

I have use JC Whittney for year when restoring VWs. I have never seen them in any catalog. It possible that it was in jc whittney before my time and discontinued. I had not considered that. Thanks.

the "opera window " or oval window was done by a custom company and were popular at some point in the 70S . there was a girl who had a 73 type lt z28 rs ( her father had a huge collision shop / gas station ) . it was triple black also . it had opera windows in it . i don't know what shop did it but camaros come up on ebay every once in a while with them . there was a "Mary Kay " pink one with them on ebay about a year ago .

Those portals made me lose my breakfast. Shades of a Ferd T-Birds ...yuk.,
disco and non cotton apparrel. The aftermarket used car dealer "dressup stripe/lettering kits" for plain jane versions of Camaros, Nova's , Mavericks , Dusters, Stangs, Pinto's, ect was very common in the mid-late 70's . As quick inexpensive way to gussey-up a car to draw more attention or add visual value to help sell cars. |
is that the 74 with an early front end? If so, That car has been for sale for years.

That 74 car was for sale here in Vegas on craigslist for about a month. when it was first on sale it was a complete 74 car, with 350 engine and a th350. someone bought it took out the engine and trans and reposted the rest of the car to cragislist, but with a 70-73 front end. it is still for sale and includes the orignal front end.
