LS2 Belt Squeak...
 

I have a LS2 with the the Kwik alternator and AC relocation brackets. Since I've had the car put together, I've had an intermittent serpentine belt squeak that is driving me completely crazy. I've replaced idlers, rebuilt the alternator and am really not sure what to try next. The alignment is perfect. If I add pressure to the tensioner the squeak stays. It does not get any worse or better it seems with the AC on or off. Any thoughts?

I had the SAME problem, also with the Kwik brackets. I tried different belts, etc. with no success. Alignment LOOKED perfect, but a couple of washers to bring the whole Kwik assembly forward about 1/16" fixed it and it hasn't squeaked since.

I contacted the Kwik people. They were very helpful, sent some info and links on the subject.

Thanks Daniel - I will give that a try. I've also replaced belts and such and nothing else seems to be helping.

Same squeak here too

It's an alignment issue. Notorious with aftermarket brackets.

I have the same problem with my Kwik A/C bracket, except not only with a squeak, but also with the belt moving forward on the crank pulley off one rib. Alignment looks perfect on all the pulleys. I kind of wonder if mine is too far forward?

The belt should walk towards the direction of misalignment. So, yeah, I bet yours is too far forward.

I had the same problem. I replaced the belt, idler pulley and tensioner. It still squeeked, really bad at times. Finally, figuring something had to be out of alignment even though I couldn't see it, I completely dissembled the Kwik brackets and reinstalled/retorqued to make sure everything was right. It was much better but still not completely fixed. Then I installed a Goodyear Gatorback belt at someone's suggestion and the noise has been gone for six months now.

I have chased a belt squeak on my wifes 1999 Camaro SS since we got it, each
time I fix it, something else starts squeaking. When we got it, it was the idler
puller and the tensioner pulley. Then, a year later it was the idler pulley and the
tensioner pulley on the A/C belt. At the time there was NO aftermarket part so
I re-greased them and it quieted them up (some). They started doing it again
and I revisited the part search and there was on available (Dealer was like $80
a pulley when I checked the first time). I put the 2 new pulleys on and quieted
it up again. Then about a year later, it started squeaking again. Back under the
car and I find the freewheel bearing on the A/C pump is squeaking. Just changed
that one out a weekend ago and its quiet again ... for now.

The GTO hasnt made a peep ... yet.

1999 Camaro SS : 210,000
2004 GTO 130,000

Never had that much trouble with my LT1 powered cars. Just a single tensioner
on the LT1s in the 1993/1995 Z28s and the 1995 Impala SS, and the A/C bearing.

1993 Camaro is over 260k now, 1995 Camaro made it to 192k (totaled) and the
1995 Impala SS has 237k now.

Yes .. I have too many cars. Anyone want an IROC?

I'm going to revisit the issue tomorrow by reinstalling my Kwik A/C bracket. Sure would like to have a cool interior this summer.

Do you have the set up for the F body or Corvette, and if it is the Corvette set up what part number for the Gatorback belt?

I'm using F Body stuff with an underdrive crank pulley, but am pretty confident that if all the pulleys are aligned a Gatorback belt will solve the problem.
