Centrifical superchargers?
 
I am looking to replace my roots blower with a centrifical Supercharger. Does anybody know where I can get a really good deal on a procharger or Vortech that is capable of 1200hp. It will be for a SBC motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you're wanting to go to las vegas PSCA racer shawn bevers owns "the local speedshop" and gives out nice discounts especially to PSCA competitors , you looking at going to a F2 pro-charger ???

yes I was looking into an f1-x or the F2. I also need to figure out how Im going to mount it... Of course this all depends on the cost of the unit and kit as well. I think I am going to start with a max hp of about 900hp but would like to be able to increase boost and power as I get bored or used to that power level.

If you want all brand new, I just spent a lot of money at ProCharger.
I will ask my contact if he can help you out.
I'm a new customer, and this guy is not really a salesman, he's more of a Pro-Mod type representative it sounds like,
so I don't want to say something I shouldn't??

If you're trying to do this cheaper, there is a ton of stuff on junk.
I mean a ton!! Just look through for your model and engine type & you might get lucky??
Or find as much as you can used, and order the rest new??

Let me know, I'm in the middle of a huge build, so I talk to him regularly.

Oh yea, have you gone to their site and looked at the power chart.
A F-2 can make more then listed, ~2000 HP, so make sure you pick the model you really need.
I didn't even buy the biggest, and I'm looking to run 6 seconds at 205+ mph.
I was told by several very experienced racers, their charts are definitely below max power possible??
An F-1 will make 1200 HP easily.

Thanks Brett. My stuff has been pump gas street deals. I do agree, the Prochargers can make more than they claim. At the time I did my big block 69 Camaro they did not have the F series yet. I ended up using a D1SC which was a bit small but I wanted that size to fit under the stock hood easier. Still made over 1000 HP on 91 octane and 14-15 psi of boost.

I bought my first kit directly from Procharger, but then found Scott at SDCE and bought all future setups from him. He has a tensioner that's much better than the Procharger unit. When many guys were having problems with belt slippage I was only running an 8 rib setup that held 15 psi without issues (again, needed the smaller belt for clearance, it's tight with a big block). He does a LOT of Procharged cars for track and street. I'd at least call him to pick his brain for a recommendation. Make sure to set aside some time, he likes to talk. ;)

The F1 will support 1100+ HP. It's also only 9" diameter which fits easier in our cars than the larger models. I've heard of guys well over 1200 HP with that blower.

I just talked to Steve about getting a custom cam.
He does some stuff a little different for us alcohol guys.

Now I have heard from a few guys he likes to fluff his numbers a little,
and is very proud of his prices??

Damn Jody, you took a 900 HP rated blower and made 1000+ with cheap gas.
Just imagine some real fuel and a pulley change!!
That's frigging amazing, another another reason why I switched myself.
The future is boost & E-85/alcohol, for track & hot rodders.
1000 HP will be the normal combo for cars that can be driven anywhere!!
Especially in E-85 areas, it would be silly not to use it's higher octane, and cooling properties.
I'm actually going to run mine with no water, and let the alcohol keep it cool.

Our 91 sucks. :screwup: E85 LOVES forced induction. The ONLY reason I haven't done one yet is because it's not readily available around here. A couple stations and if you took a trip not sure I could find enough to get home............ :confused:

if that was my power goal I would be going turbos. ;) Way easier to get there (turbos do not have the power loss of a blower), way less maintenance on the engine, and no need to turn a lot of rpm. Either way I would think you need a good EFI system like the FAST XFI, the new Holley or Accel, etc. 16 injectors to get enough fuel (these systems can run the extra set of injectors). Obviously the best parts as far as rotating assembly and fasteners to keep everything together. I think with the turbos you could hit that goal and still keep the rpms under 7000 (probably 6600-6800 max), which goes a long way in keeping the maintenance down. The other advantage of turbos is that it's so much easier to control the boost and power levels. The same turbos and combo could have a "mild" 900-1000 HP pump gas level, and be turned up up to 1600-???? on race gas, without turning a wrench.

Already bought a big beautiful F-3R.
I bracket race, so I have to hit the dial in, and I hear it's much easier to do with a belt.
It does happen, but very few turbo's have ever won in my class.

What makes a blower maintenance harder??
I kind of thought they would be exactly the same??
I know anything that spins at 70,000 rpm will need to be watched,
but don't turbo's spin high also??

I'm probably going with a 3.70 gear, which at 205 mph puts me at 7600 rpm.
Which is less then my nitrous engine at much lower speeds.

Also can't you change pulley's to set up boost levels needed per event/application??
It can't be that hard, but obviously not as easy as typing in a file name??

I'm new to all this, and us old guys are slow learners.
