1968 Camaro front brake conversion

A friend of my'n has the gear to change over to disc's on the front of his 68 Camaro (single piston caliper) the question. Dose he need to change the proportioning valve and or the master cylinder or is the origional gear good to go?

I would change both. I'm not sure where the residual valve is on a 68, if it's in the master or combination valve (proportioning valve), but disc brakes require a 2 lb valve and drums require a 10 lb so if you just install the brakes and not the master/combo valve your brakes will drag.

RPO J52 requires a proportioning valve. From the factory it looks like this:

and fits together with the standard distribution block like this one:

Which your buddy should already have.

Now on a '69 there should also be one of these under the driver's door on the frame:

I didn't think that '67 or 8 had them but I could be wrong. Some people say there are not necessary.

Or...if you don't care about original or retaining the brake pipe config replace it all with one of these, a combo valve:

The master cylinder is different between drum and disc BTW:bowtie:
