th400 kickdown connection on trans question
Pulled my 400 to have it built. Noticed that the connector on the side of trans which has two spades coming out of it. One toward the floorboards and the other toward the ground. Well the orange wire was connected to the top spade and the other spade was bent down and no wire attached. In fact, there was a black wire that was cut off next to the orange wire.
Trans guy told me the orange wire should have been connected to the bottom spade not the top. What's the deal? Which should it be? If it was correct the way it was, what does the bottom spade do? What about the black wire? |
Anyone have any thoughts????

Did your kickdown work before you pulled the trans out? Did they mess with the kickdown wiring while it was being built? Usually there's only one wire for the TH400 kickdown, and it usually only has a single prong.

I think it was working alright, but now that you ask, I'm unsure. How would I know it it was not working?
I pulled the trans out and took it to the builder. So when I pulled it out is when I notice the cut black wire and that the bottom prong was bent down. |
u would know if ur kickdown worked if u were in 3rd...and just romped on it the tranny would knock down into second...generally the black wire is the kickdown wire in my experience...also if its the same on a turbo 350 i'd be willing to crawl under mine and take a look..tell me if its the same and i will

Hey I appreciate it, but I really am not sure it is the same. Maybe one of the other members knows?

79BlueSC... Your th-350 wouldnt have a kickdown wire. The th-350 uses a cable from pass. front side of trans up to the carb.

i know how my kickdown works..i actually thought that the 400 was the same my bad...sorry about that hey if u had a 350 i'd be here for ya lol

If I remember right the top spade is the one to connect to 12v+ and put through a switch tripped by the throttle. Just hook it up and try it, if it doesn't kick down try the other spade. If neither work you have to do the manual thing.
