Project: "FZZYNVL" Build Thread
 

This post is at least 1-day premature, but I recieved a call from Intercity Lines today and my '73 project car has nearly completed its 2,397 mile trip from West Jordan, UT and will be here tomorrow afternoon and I just had to tell someone. :)

As for the project name...it will be hugger orange with white stripes and that is what we came up with and will also be the license plate. :lush:

I am really looking forward to the build as my son is almost 13 and we have a "deal" that if he helps me build it, he can drive it to cruise nights and car shows (when he turns 16) and I'll drive my '69 Bird. So this will be a father-son project.

I am still finishing my '69, so the plan is that the '73 will be dropped at my bodyshop tomorrrow. They will drop the suspension and put it on the rotissere and bring it to my media blaster. Once the shell is stripped, it will go back to the bodyshop to be put in sealer...I don't want the body sitting in our New England climate without protection. By the time all of this happens, it should be about time to send the '69 to paint jail at the bodyshop (they will keep it until next Spring). This will free up my garage to bring the '73 in an start assembly. This all looks good on paper....we'll see how the timing goes.

Oh man, I wished I had known about this. I could have checked the car out and made sure there were no surprises waiting. Have fun though.

The '73 is here! :happy:

It was delivered today by Intercity Lines. I am glad to say that the car was as promised....totally rot free! It's pretty amazing, actually. After looking at so many cars over the years and being disappointed (living in New England, all we see is rust!), this truly is a diamond in the rough. It may not be pretty, but it is solid. Right down to the last original window trim mounting pin! Don't mind the panel fiment, the seller just bolted the fenders and front end on quickly for shipping. The seller also sent me a few spare parts (bumpers, door panels, doors, wheels, etc.) and I am going back to the bodyshop tomorrow to sift through it all. The only "damaged" piece is one of the doors has a good size dent in it (4"), but I was sent 2 spare doors that are also solid!

Great project. My car is a California car and it has no rust. After looking through a lot of the project cars that have rust I'm so thankfull that I don't have to deal with all that.

Nice build, your car is clean. I just looked thru your thread. :bowtie: I also plan on blocking off the A/C and heater box.

I am not [planning] on going too crazy on this one though. Definitely suspension upgrades to the front (coil overs) and I keep getting sucked into looking in my Heidt's catalog at their 4-link rear. Interior will be a simple front seat upgrade. Not sure about the powerplant yet, but it will have an automatic tranny. I would love to do an LS swap, but again, I want to keep it simple.

I am still working on getting the Bird finalized for paint (another 60 days or less) before I get focsued on the '73, but I did pick up a new part today. I couldn't pass it up it was nearly 1/2 price.

This will give you some ideas of the powerplant direction, which pretty much has been directed by my new intake: :confused:

Almost 2 years later, a divorce, the loss of my '69 Firebird to the divorce (as well as a slew of other things), I am bringing this thread back as I finally starting on the '73.

At the moment, I am dismantling a '70 parts car that I will be keeping a few things from and selling the rest (see the swap meet section).

I am using the interior from the '70 as well as the smaller rear spoiler, so the '73 will end up looking more like a '70.

I think I have the '70 shell sold (supposed to be picked up this Friday) and then I will be focused on the '73. The goal is to have the shell blasted this month.

I know most of the pics of my '73 are gone, but I will be taking more. It's a rolling shell From N. CA that has been off the road and stored since '82. Not 1 bit of rot on the car and no panels to replace. :cool:
