View Full Version : Calling Ccass...NEW Pypes 2nd Gen crossflow exhaust kit
SHANE 73Z 12-17-2004, 10:14:00 PM Hey All,
Saw this on the Pro-Touring board. It seems if there is enough denmand there may be a new exhaust option for us. The folks at Performance Years in conjunction with Pypes Exhaust may be offering an alternative to the only other crossflow exhaust (Flowmaster)on the market. Check it out:

This is not an ad. The folks on the above thread are trying to get a quality crossflow exhaust for 2nd gen f cars done. Most of the Pontiac folks know about this, but I thought I'd share this info with you Chevy guys.
This system is a G-machine dream exhaust. Check it out!!
If you are interested, there is info on letting the PYPES division of Performance Years know.
Take care,
Shane
P.S. Ccass what more can you tell us about this???

What you're talking about is basically a nice, free-flowing system that puts the muffler in the stock location? Sounds nice for ground clearance. But, doesn't the stock muffler location interfere with some swaybar installations?
Sounds cool. I'd want one with an X-pipe, and the option of either a mellow dual-in, dual-out muffler, or two straight-through chambered mufflers.

-'77 Camaro - 357, home-ported heads and intake, Q-jet, headers, hyper flattops, ~8.5:1, 3.42 gears, 214/224 cam, 112LSA, rear discs coming soon
-'92 LeBaron LX sedan - all family owned, great daily driver and highway cruiser. 52mm TB, rear discs swapped. 5-sp swap in the works.
-'70 Camaro - 350, 4-sp, needs work, lotsa fun
-'65 Nova - 230 I6, 3 on the tree, nothing power. HEI swap. 5sp and 4 wheel discs in the works.
SHANE 73Z 12-17-2004, 11:33:00 PM Blueyes,
You are right. It appears that this is going to be a 2.5" crossflow exhaust. It seems some of the Pontiac guys with big H.P. numbers are finding out the newer design Flowmaster muffler in the American Thunder kit is VERY restricting.
The system in question uses an UltraFlow muffler that supposedly is much freer flowing and will be avaiiable with an x-pipe option.
Which swaybar setups seem to be affected with a crossflow setup?? The only one out of the ordinary that I can think of is the Hotchkis rear bar. Most others use stock style mounting (or so I thought)

I have no idea why the link wont work. It works on the PT board. Heres a link to the PT thread.

SHANE 73Z 12-17-2004, 11:36:00 PM I cant get any links to work tonight!!!!!!!!!!!
On the PT message board it is under "open discussion"
rscamaro73 12-18-2004, 01:05:00 AM Hmmm....I think I bought my 3" setup from him. I'm at the point where I'd RATHER have my stuff hanging....lol. But eventually I'd like to switch out the flows for something better sounding...

Not sure which one, may have been the Hotchkiss. I just remember hearing people have problems with the crossflow at some point up on the Suspension and Brakes forum.

That topic on the Pontiac Forums pretty much has all the info. We have the test system in house and hope to confirm fit over the holidays. Then we have to price it out and produce it. Figure mid winter.

SHANE 73Z 12-19-2004, 02:07:00 AM Thanks Ccass,
Will it be available with an X-Pipe and will it be available through you or is it a Performance Years exclusive???
Take care,
Shane

The system will have our F-body 'tight fit' crossover kit included.
Pypes will produce it. If you have a Camaro, you'd do best to buy thru companies like Ground UP, OPG, Parts Place etc. Pontiac owners can buy from Performance Years.
If you want to buy from PYPES, it will be a little more expensive.

AllGoNoShow 12-24-2004, 05:26:00 PM Ccass- When is the X-Change crossover for 70-81 camaros be available? I just need the x-pipe(not the full system). Also, how much will it cost and will it allow the pipes/mufflers to be located within the tunnel like the regular cross over? Throw me an email if you can.
Sorry-dont mean to steal a thread.
Todd80Z28 12-25-2004, 08:53:00 PM I've been waiting to trade out my Flowmaster setup, but I am NOT giving up my transverse setup. I've been waiting for a non-custom option like this.
Nice.
GetMore 02-05-2005, 03:38:00 PM Just wanted to bump this up!
I read the latest post on one of the linkes sites, and they are still working on this system. I can't wait!
Bad 406 12-17-2005, 07:27:32 PM I've been looking at all of the options for exhaust systems and to tell you the truth it’s quite overwhelming! I like the look and the way this new Pypes cross flow with x pipe installs. But as for the sound that is yet to be determined. (the sound clip of it on the Pypes website isn’t the best) So I was wondering if anyone has gotten this system and is happy with it.
