AllGoNoShow 11-30-2003, 01:19:00 PM Does anyone have pictures of underneath their cars of their x-pipes?
I was flipping through the summit racing catalog and noticed a new x-pipe kit by Hedman Hedders that looks like it might work for our cars...I have emailed them for dimensions but I have not received a return yet.(if you want to look its on page 70) I just want to see pics of your guys x-pipes and how they look/where they are located. Thanks guys.

I like those kits...does anyone have any experience with these guys?
I already have mufflers so I am just looking for x-pipe and tailpipes and I could get em for a little over $200 from these guys.
1978LT 12-01-2003, 06:02:00 AM I dont know anyone who has dealt directly with them, but if you do a search on Google, you will find people across the internet that have used Pypes exhaust and seem to love it. All mandrel bent is a big plus!

1978LT 12-02-2003, 06:13:00 AM Brian, is that an effective X? I didnt know if there was a certain amount they had to cross each other to get the full effect.
Ccass 12-02-2003, 09:34:00 PM Here is a pretty good pic of a 75 Formula.

So yes, my guess is that it would be effective. We have no data to prove that, though.
Elfear 12-04-2003, 01:14:00 PM Hey AllGo, I just got a 3" mandrel bent kit with x-pipe from Summit for $99.95. It's part # SUM-642130 on page 18 of the Nov-Dec catalog. It comes with four 45 degree mandrel bent legs, x-pipe, and 8 clamps.
MEAN_SBC 12-04-2003, 01:24:00 PM Hey, quick question.... Is it true that the x-pipe will fulfill the NHRA requirement of a driveshaft loop???

GetMore 01-16-2005, 06:59:00 PM Brant, I wouldn't think so. I could be wrong, but I don't think the exhaust pipes are strong enough to hold the driveshaft, should it break. Plus, you would not have anything above the driveshaft to keep it from breaking through the floor.
On the other hand, I am sure you could make the pipes from heavier material and fabricate a hanger/upper half so that your exhaust could function as a driveshaft loop.
mjoc 01-16-2005, 08:12:00 PM no it will not fulfill the requiremnet it needs to be made for cold rolled steel of sometype and

I bought a hedman 2 1/2" x treme x over but I have'nt installed it yet. I don't have any doubts that it won't fit real nice on my 80. Just have cut to make adjustments for the header width before the bends, then cut the lengths after add in your collector lengths. Same idea to get the width set up for the pipes after the x junction so they tuck up into the driveshaft tunnel.

Turbo T/A 01-17-2005, 04:02:00 AM I use the Pypes 3" mandrel bent exhaust kit with X-Pipe...
Incredible fitment & very complete kit.
Pics available in Spring when it's out of storage.
calereeves 01-17-2005, 05:12:00 PM I'm going to go with the Pypes 3" with the XChange crossover and 2 electric cutouts when I get working on the car again.
yody 01-19-2005, 02:30:00 PM finished the first part of the exhaust on project formula454. The exhaust consists of;
Hooker SUper Comp 2" primary headers Ceramic Coated
Flowmaster 4-2-1 Scavenger collectors into 3.5 collector
Flowmaster "Ball and Socket" collector ends
Flowmaster "D-Port" crossover and elbows all 3"
Dynomax Ultraflow 3" offset/offset mufflers
Soon to come and be installed 3" Pypes Tailpipes
I cut it all up and welded it together in my garage, as you can see i don't have jack for clearance under the car. It seems i have pretty decent ground clearance. The top of the headers are about 1/8" away from the bottom of the floor. They were so high up i had to notch and box in the tranny crossmember so the top of the collector would clear the crossmember. The mufflers are pretty close as well, the pipes are about halfway up in the tunnel. It appears on the passenger header for some stupid reason on of the tubes hangs way lower than the rest, i didn't realize this until they were coated. After it gets banged up i will take that header out, cut out that bend and reweld a new one higher up and recoat it......

1978LT 01-19-2005, 03:18:00 PM Yody that is some nice welding there! I have to use a catalytic converter, and they would only make my Y pipe out of 2 inch compression bent tubing, so I did a weld up job kind of like yours. Lots of joints made from different bends, but it sure works http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
yody 01-19-2005, 04:25:00 PM blowmaster and other companies make bigger Y pipes, you should look into it, 2" is tiny! thanks for the compliments!

I used 2-1/2 and 3 inch tubing throughout. I think it flows pretty good.
yody 01-20-2005, 04:05:00 AM oh, i see...sorry, I thought you went with the 2". I see what you mean now. Yeah that should work quiet well. Did you use high flow cats?

1978LT 01-20-2005, 05:15:00 AM Yes I used a 3 inch converter. I basically ran the stock route Z-28 system, but much larger. I'm almost curious enough to weld in one of those fittings and take a backpressure reading! But I don't think it's too bad at all.
