Just squeeked into the 10's but thats all it takes to claim 10 sec street car! Wish i could say 10 sec street car!

thats a bad street car what gear and converter is that im sure your sacrificing some trap speed for streetability? Just curious how much

Horsepower Heaven (http://www.horsepowerheaven.com/navigation_all/hhnavigation.html)

Mission Raceway (http://www.missionraceway.com/)

Rust, you coming back down here again this year? http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Are you kidding? a 10.996 is deep into the 10's http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif
Converter is a TCS 9 inch, flashes 5400 in Mission, 5200 here in PG. I can pull away from a stop under 2500 RPM, most I can brake stall (unless trans is in 3rd) is 4000. Gears are 4.10's, tires are 12.5x28 ET streets. (10" tread width) The car is fun to drive on the street, but with the purchase of a car trailer, it won't be licenced this year, no need.

Thanks for hosting the vid Greg!
Thanks for the kind remarks from all others. No plans to hit Mission this year, but we may drive through on our way to Seattle for the Div 6 ET finals this year, we'll see how the season goes.
Aaron, I'm sure we could work something out, I'll just need a forward notice to clear my schedule.

408 cubes of N/A small block chevy.
Iron GM heads, production GM 4 bolt block, production 400 crank, production 350 rods, solid flat tappet cam, FM forged pistons, vic jr intake, 850 dp.
you too can run 10's, all it takes is time and $$$$. I've been working with this engine combination since it ran 12.1's it's first time out. Lots of tuning, suspension changes, weight loss, driveline changes, etc.

You know, i had more fun running 12's then i do now. All my buddy's have slower cars, and except for a very small handful here in the city, you dont get much to run.

I miss it sometimes! Fast is cool, but sometimes its boring too.

You need to get your buddies to step up Carm! I agree that 12's are wayy cool. Come to think of it, the first time I went to the track back in 1990 I ran low 16's and had a blast! Just give me anything to run down the strip, I'm happy. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif
There is a solid group of local guys that are in the bottom 12 to low 11 bracket and it's great, a lot of extremely close racing. (fortunately, I'm still the king of the hill in the group, save for one pure race car, but them NOSsers come close http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif )
The horsepower deal has been consistant for me other than a cam swap a few years back, it's been the little details that have gained (lost actually) a bunch of ET. The big concentration this year is suspension. New Koni's all the way around are on order, a T/A rear end girdle for the 10 bolt for added strength, cutting the front coils to lower the front end and allow more upward travel and weight transfer for the launch, new front calipers and a drag race alignment to reduce drag, and of course tuning the shocks and Cal Tracs at the strip.

Ran 10.50's on a stock suspension/diff 2 summers ago with the old pump gas 383 (except when on nitrous). I've changed the motor(pump again) since then, suspension, diff, exhaust to 3" from Pypes, Nitrous kit, etc..

Hoping for low 11's N/A this spring & any kind of a single digit with the juice.

That's 3 of us now Cragger, good work!

Plenty more out there, just not on the net.

I'll tell ya you should of seen the look on the old guys face's when i drove to the track on a fresh motor, ran a 10.80 on the juice & drove her back home....all on a stock suspension & diff. They said im extremely lucky & extremely stupid...i told them i'm "just a young punk" and we are known for doing dumb things!

Rust, that car of your's sure works! Keep up the good work. makes me wanna buy a Dart block & build a good size SBC that could run faster on motor & maybe faster on the squeeze......just missing the 1 key thing, $$$ http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

You're right about the $$$$ thing Carm, I believe most of us suffer that same affliction.
Good looking video, once you put some suspension device in the car you will reduce your 60' times and ET by planting the tires harder. (and lifting the fronts nice and high)
I have a NOS super powershot kit and would love to try it but with my pistons and rods being delicate the fun would be short lived. Maybe next engine. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif

Thats exactly what I like about my car. Drive it to the track, unload your tools from the back seat, hit the lanes, crack off a 10 sec pass and folks usually come look.

Hey Rust yea man the $ would be nice to have. You should put that powershot to use....live a little LOL j/k

Actually i've added those Caltrac's just this past summer on the new mill. Unfortunetly i only got out once & had problems with my fuel pump. Still 60' 1.61 bogging & it ran 11.7 @ 116 but that "squat" is now completely eliminated. Car takes off level & hard. Caltrac's definetly worth the $$$$. BTW they are at 0 preload, not sure where the best setting is but i will fiddle with them!

rustbucket79
01-12-2005, 03:26:00 PM
I'm not sure what the magic preload will be with mine, new drag shocks are on the way for front and rear, I expect to spend some time at the track tuning. Unfortunately my first race will be out of town and at a track that's stingy with time trials compared to home so I'm hoping to "guess well" on the setup.
I much prefer the way our cars launch with the Cal Tracs, no real body movement, just plant and leave!
