i have 2 used unilite distributors one has a bronze gear and and the other one has the original cam drive gear.the one with the bronze gear if i'm right is for a steel billet roller cam correct ??.

on that same distributor with the bronze gear there is evidence of very fine "small" metal shavings. it's on the plate that the photo cell mounts to and i can't see any damage.
i took that plate off and looked at the advance weights and nothing looks worn or damaged.

Unless your cam requires the bronze hear, stick with the steel gear. Debris on the plate could be from anywhere (someone grinding on something else while the cap was off???) Not sure which distributor you have but some of the Mallory distributors use a ball bearing in the main shaft. If the center shaft is tight, and the mechanical is 'under' the plate, debris probably came from somewhere else.
Is the debris steel (pick it up with a magnet), aluminum, or brass?
