i got an 81 camaro, im thinking about doing sidepipes, does anyone know how long they have to be, and if it is possible to do sidepipes with the long headers or would it be easier to get shorty headers...
thanks

probably easier with shorties. With the long-tubes, you'd have to take a 90* bend right at the end of the header to get the sidepipe in the right place.
You do realize that you will be losing a bunch of ground clearance doing this? I've thought about sidepipes, or just side-exit in the past, but after spending some time laying under the car, looking at how the chassis is I decided it wasn't worth it. Any way you cut it, the pipes have to go underneath the frame, which is already so close to the ground to begin with.

Ed cant really answer you questions other than sidepipes are cool. check out my pics of the orange camaro. they are hooker header and side tubes. unfortuantely they dont make any more. check ebay from time to time if interested. i just took my baffles out a month ago and have been open header since. sounds really cool. as far as clearance issues it is not more or less than any other camaro with duel exhaust with the mufflers hanging down infront of the rear end.
go to this site. they have some pretty cool side tubes and may be able to help you on a set up.
