ok wiht all this rain we got here... water down the intake of a sitting engine. have alot of water everywhere in the engine. not just in the cylinders...
can i just tear down the engine.. spray it down good with a degreaser/cleaner. then lube it all back up using assembly lube and MMO on everything... clean it all up, and put it back together? the engine was never ran with the water in it.. it was sitting covered.. then stormed and became uncovered.
i've heard alot of guys who have done the same... anyone have experience?
i havent gotten the heads off.. but if they have a slight(very slight) surface rust could i just hone it clean if needed and throw in a set of .001 over rings??

Hmmmm.....If it had no oil in it, I'd dump the thing over to drain it out....then WD/MMO the cylinders with a mister.....Prolly no need to take much apart if it was assembled and assembly lube used on it. That won't 'wash off' with a lil rain.
Pull the plugs, spray the cylinders, spray some down the intake, rotate the motor over a few times by hand, put some oil in the pan just to have 'there' (not a fill up). That way if this happens again, you can notice the amount of water in the pan if need be.
Then again, prolly better just to wrap a big contractor sized GLAD bag over it and tape it up pretty well.
Any pix ?

Pull the pan take and spray everything with wd40 before it rusts I always leave heads off motors that sit for a long time now and put LPS3 on the cyl.
wall and othe parts ans when it dries it gets waxy and is easy to clean. I left a block outside for 2 years spray coated with this stuff then took it to the machine shop had the work done and no problems hope your stuff is ok we had a ton of rain here in southern MN.too.

Don't bag it b/c it won't breath and will rust worse!!
Take her inside in the dry and put a great big beach towel over her after you MMO or 20wt her good! I'd use 20wt and set her on some heavy cardboard to soak it up that comes out of her over time. This way, she can breath!!
Then MMO her cylinders when it's time to light her off!!!

i actually had 3 engines that got full of water. one was junk i knew before the other 2 should have been ok... well i tore one down(suposibly a good one).. lots of "muddy" looking oil. well tore the heads off... have a crack between 2 cylinders... oh well... gonna tear everythign off junk the block and keep everythign as spares...
other one i got the intake off.. it MIGHT be ok... no water in the oilpan only in the cylinders(maybe alittle water in the pan but not like OMG its a flood like the other one)
hopefully this one will be ok... if this one is junk also...i just got a core 460 for $200
guess i'll keep looking for good running 302's
