Alright I was working on the good ol Chevy with my poppa, who happens to be a guru with engines (Especially puny rubber band engines compared to his fords). Theres this pop in the exhaust its not timing and such I went through all that, he said it sounded like a valve. So my question for you today is would I have to take my entire engine in to the shop to have the block resurfaced along with the head or just take the heads off and have them do a valve job? Also do you know how much this would be and also if it would even be worth it. Thanks for your time.

New plugs, ill pull them. Plug wires are fairly new. I only put 1000 miles on them. I dont think valve adjustment, I adjusted that stuff when I first got the car.

How much do you think a valve job would run me?

Can you take the valve covers off and run the engine to notice anything odd going on? You could have a cam lobe worn off and its not lifting the valve??
Just a couple of thoughts

I pulled the valve cover off today, the springs are all fine. I wasnt aware you could run the engine with the valve covers off...should I really try that?

You can run the engine without the vc's Levi, You may get oil all over so dont rev it.
