I bought a 81 Z28 w/350. The guy before me ripped out all the emissions stuff. My car has no computor or any emission sensers. My problem is that my distributor is not timming my car right. Do I need to bye a mechenical ditributor if yes what kind do I need.

If he yanked all the computer stuff off, you'll need a different distributor and carb. You won't be 'successful' with the stock pieces since they're computer controlled.

The carb is different but the distributor is the same with no vac advance on it.Do I need a mechenical one and what is a good hi performance one to buy.

Yep you're doing nothing without an old style distributor. An Accel Blueprint HEI isn't bad for the price. If you want the best you could get an MSD and then they will give you all the weights and springs to tune the advance to your liking.

Im using a Proform Hei it was cheap works well

A fantastic street distributor is a DUI unit or a Pertronix, but they're like $260 for a DUI, $220 for Pertronix. An Accel Blueprint HEI is OK (like a rebuilt stock one) for $140. I have the Blueprint one, I'ts been working fine.

The Proform comes with some goodies for 199 and its all new

you could aways pick up a STOCK style HEI for like $50 in really good condition
