Hi, i'm John, first post here I have a 78 camaro with a 396 in it the engine sits really high in the chassis I have heard that this is from useing small block mounts with a big block. With this setup will I have driveshaft angle problems? I also would like to put dyno max headers p/n 289-86110 out of jegs in the car with the way the engine sits will this cause a problem with the header fit? Also does any body know what size tube these headers have? Any help would be appreciated!thanks, John

I have a 73 with a 454 and the 'cheapo' Dynomax headers - no contact what so ever anywhere. Also have the SBC mounts in place.
You CAN buy the aftermarket/repo BBC frame mounts and swap them over and the BBC engine side mounts....but you'd have to make sure your oilpan had the clearance. http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/smile.gif

Regarding the headers and exhaust system. I have an 81' and it worked awesome for me. I am not positive if it is the same for BBC, but I will assume it is. If you go with the Hooker SuperComps you can cheat the system a bit. Summit sells a bolt-on system going back to the bumper and looks stock from the outside, but it is only for the SuperComps. Just tell them it is for a 73' and get a perfect look and sound. Not to mention VERY easy to install. The entire setup minus the Headers was around $300 and no issues with the exhaust shop, trailer and waiver bs.

The same mounts were used after 70 or 72... My 427 is sitting on poly mounts for bb or sb. (mounts are the same) The driveline will be fine.
The easiest headers to put in (and take out) are Hedman shorty headers. They can be put in (and taken out) from above without jacking the car up, must remove the plugs and temp sender if in the head. They won't hang down too low either.
If its hitting the underside of the hood, its not because the engine is tall, its because of the stock low hoodline.
