Not sure where to post this. I need some input.
As the car idles longer it seems to run a little rough as if it's being overloaded with fuel. No problems on cornering so I don't think it's the float. My mech fuel pump puts out 7.5lbs and I think that's too much for my edelbrock 650 (thunder series). I was thinking of installing one of these to reduce the pressure. Since I'm not sure if this will cure the problem I don't want to spend a lot of money yet.

Or is this an el cheapo regulator that'll cause me more problems than it's worth? It has 1 port in and 2 out, but not sure if that's to accomodate a dual feed or a return line. If for dual can I just plug one. Also, can regulators be mounted vertically?

Looks like a standard Holley regulator???

There's overhead involved with a regulator, you won't be putting in 7.5# and getting out 7#. The minimum drop will probably be about 3#.

That reg is really easy to modify to make it a bypass and use with a return line, if you have one. Then its not a restriction between the pump and carb.

They seem to work well enough as dead head regs, but when you take one apart and see how small the orifice is, (.120" iirc), that all the fuel has to pass through, it makes you wonder how. Probably why often you see 1/2" lines and 200 gph pumps, trying to get enough fuel through it on big engines.

You can use the two outs as a dual feed or put a pressure gauge in one side or just plug it. For what you're doing it will work fine mounted any way you want.

I use the std holley $24 dead head regulator on mine. Been working great for the last 4 years with my edelbrock carb.

+1

I've used that same style regulator on a Holley for 5-6yrs and recently with an Edelbrock with no issues. I've had to rebuild mine a couple times over the yrs but that might be something most regulators require.

I've been using that style (Holley) regulator for years on my Edelbrock dual quad setup. I don't know if the pressure requirements are the same for the Performer and Thunder series carbs. Max pressure for the Performer carbs is 5.5 lbs.

5.5-6 pounds max for that carb IIRC.
