I was wondering if anyone uses a professional products intake?? I saw one online, model power+ crosswind and it looks just like a rpm air gap. Same specs and all. Are these intakes any good? Or just cheap knock-offs?

I have never owned any of them, but imho, if you are chea-, eh, er, "frugal" like me and not after a "balls-out" combinationed motor, they would be fine AND the price is right...

I do also figure that I would spend some time detailing the castings if I had to which is what I do to alotta parts regardless...

Nobody else look at this intake as a cost saver to the rpm air gap???

A buddy put a RPM Air Gap clone on his vortec-headed SBC in a '79 Malibu. He's a GM tech and he likes it.

I had one of those PP whirlwinds or whatever they are called and didn't like it. The ports on the manifold didn't match the head so well. Plus it was really ugly inside in the runners. Take the time to match the ports and clean up all the casting irregularities and it would probably be fine, but the Edelbrock looks good right out of the box for like $50 more. What's your time worth is the bottom line question.

If I were in your position, I'd save up a couple more bucks and buy the Edelbrock intake. Not just because of quality, but because I would know that a fraction of the money Edelbrock gets for the intake goes back into new product development rather than lining the pockets of PP employees or paying for new tooling to steal more products.

I have used a bunch of those ProProducts intake. They are ok, the crosswind is actually a pretty good model.
All of the threads will need to be chased before you install it.
Their Ford manifolds are actually superiour to the Edelbrock ones (water crossover)

The rpm air gar is up to $203.95 now and this one was $129.95. Pretty big difference for a little clean up work when theres nothing to do on a cold winter nite.

$129? Damn, that's low. Last I saw they were $170.

Where at for $129??

I don't know if it will fit, but for a Holley square mount dual plane intake, you can't beat their good old, 300-36, true high-rise intake for the price!!!

BUT it is a TRUE high-rise b/c it is TALL!!!

saw the intake at a online ebay store for 129.99. The place is racersoutlet. I have gotten a few things through him before and had no problems and great shipping.

I have have fairly big entry ports on my sportman IIs. I took the time to review all the size specs on all the available manifolds, 2 plane for SBC. I know several shops who let me take my calipers down to the store and measure all of them.

Full marks to Edlebrock, Holley, Weiand ( I bought weiand 8004 at a swap meet for $80.00). Professional Products was another story the published port sizes were attractive and also mythical. The actual ports were well under the published sizes by as much as .015". On a 1.88" tall port thats a whole lotta hogging and aluminum sucks on stones and cutters. I was thoroughly unimpressed with the quality as well. On one side the ports weren't even symetric to each other! You can have it. Edlebrock 2101s are too cheap and too well made to bother with Pro Prods.

Thats the kind of info i was after. Thanks tom. I guess you get what you pay for most of the time. If its really junk, then i won't waste my time. I'll just pay the price for the air gap rpm and get it over with.
