After working on the wifeys truck all week and replacing lots of needless parts due to no diag stuff I finally got a fuel pressure guage and tested it was at 60 psi which is ok for a 4.3 vortec motor. Then I sampled the fuel and is was res not light red "RED" so I thought what the heck is this so tonight I drained the tank put in some fresh gas and walah it starts right up
So what the heck was the fuel, diesel? and it does not look to be tampered with sure had me puzzled  Boy I sure love working on cars:mad:

Sounds to me like you had untaxed diesel or home heating oil in there. They might even use red dye in untaxed kerosene.

We use untaxed (maybe just agricultural) diesel fuel in the locomotive at work and it's more of a pink color.

Some gas companies add dye to their gasoline to help identify it. Color doesn't mean anything. As long as you know the gas is fresh and was bought from a reputable dealer, burn it. Gas it too expensive to waste.

:D Im still learning my way around the web site here but i finally found your reply to my rocky and bullwinkle note. International Falls usually takes the dubious honor of posting the lowest temperature in the United States during the winter months. Not my idea of fun. moodcam79

It could have been 80 octane AVGAS. Aviation gas is color coded 80 red.

I don't think it's av gas as being that is leaded fuel and that would plug up the cat. convt. BP is very interested in seeing the fuel. As this has settled in the gas can it smells like diesel and one person said off road is red. All I know is that after I had the tank drained put in fresh fuel I have had no problems zero zippo:bowtie:
