I lean towards Holleys probably just because I've had a few, but I'd like to here some other opinions.

View Full Version : Carb preference: Holley or Edelbrock nuhmizer 08-22-2007, 10:12:38 PM I lean towards Holleys probably just because I've had a few, but I'd like to here some other opinions. Mwilson 08-22-2007, 10:14:15 PM holley because I think I almost understand them! Cardinal 08-22-2007, 10:53:01 PM Q-Jet for the street. Edelbrock or Carter AFB if I can't find a good Q-jet. Holley for high performance engines with low intake vacuum from nasty cams. rgearhead 08-22-2007, 10:57:01 PM ditto what card said^^^^^^ depends on application.... FreedomPenguin 08-22-2007, 11:03:05 PM i want a q-jet lol. andrew1977 08-22-2007, 11:06:54 PM i have a couple q jets.... i stuck on an edelbrock and it now goes faster.... i hant tried holley yet.... maby on my next motor. al5570 08-22-2007, 11:13:31 PM i only have experience with edelbrocks, but i have always been told that edelbrocks are good because they are easier to adjust, simpler. but then holleys are better for more more performance based engines, but are a little more complicated to mess around with. rustbucket79 08-23-2007, 01:20:25 AM I never cared about the driveability of an Edelbrock carb. Holley avenger series for stock to mild race, double pumper from there up, dominator or HP series for a pure race setup. blades67 08-23-2007, 06:16:36 AM I like Barry Grant's Demon carbs. 80'427 08-23-2007, 09:28:00 AM What is hard to adjust on a holley? If you get the right carb for the application instead of buying a parted together one from a swap meet they work great. Plus if you need a jet gasket power valve they almost sell them at a grocery stores here. ULTM8Z 08-23-2007, 10:14:07 AM Before I converted to EFI, I was running a Holley 4010 (I don't think they make them anymore). It had a one-piece removeable airhorn (like the Carter/Edelbrock's) and annular discharge venturis. That was a fantastic street carb! Marv D 08-23-2007, 10:35:48 AM As your going to see from the poll results,, Holleys are the hands down favorite if your looking for performance. And if you want more,,, have Patrick at Prosystems build you a custom (holley based) carb,, your ET slip will be happy. For drivability and fuel economy on the street,, the Q-jet is a FANTASTIC carb when it is working right. There is not much to go wrong with them, but havng someone who can set it up 'RIGHT' is a trick to find. Our own Q-jet guru Damon is somewhat retired from Q-jet rebuilding (It takes big $'s, promises of lap dances, and betrothing you first born daughter to get him to do one these days ;) ) But I can attest to his work being RIGHT ON,, and when it's 'RIGHT',,, The Q-jet is FANTASTIC. Damon did a Q-jet for my sons restored Caddy. Only a 472 motor but a battleship like that getting 16-18mpg after the carb was 'RIGHT' is almost unheard of. I've ran Carter and Edelbrock AFB's and they are OK, and that's all I'll say about them,,,, there OK. fabio 08-23-2007, 02:01:50 PM the old holley 3310 is a great all around carb. Works well on small and big blocks with just a minor jet change and gets decent mileage/reliability. |
