i dont think GM put out a 370hp 350 engine inthe late 70's.. Maybe if it were a '70 engine or earlier.. But definitly no stock 370hp motor in a gm car in '79.. Plus the 010 blocks were used in many different cars..

Welcome to the board Chad, lots of Canucks are on here regularly!

Get out the handy dandy "Chevrolet Small Block Parts Interchange Manual" by Ed Staffel and see that your right.... your a decade out, but your right.

1969-70 302 - 350 as well as " 3970010 69-80? 2-4 bolt."

By the way technically the only 370HP Small block was the 70' LT-1.

The block itself could be from many vehicles besides a 69 Z-28. The crankshaft should be forged steel if its a 350-370 hp Z, the pistons will be domed forged aluminum PN3989051 and more importantly the heads should be 2.02s w screw in studs.

There are likely some better part number guys here than me but Staffell's book says 3991492, 3973414, 3947041 or 3927186 or ...187 as cylinder heads casting #s.

All those pieces need to be part of the engine and identifiable to be a high output 69-70 Zapper engine.

Good luck

Welcome aboard

I believe the 70 1/2 Z came with a 360 hp 350, and the vette 350 was 370 hp, not sure which year, but is was probably the 70 also. I'm pretty sure there was no stock 370 hp 350 motor in 79 due to the emissions issue. In '71 they started lowering the compression and hp numbers for this reason.

I had a 370 hp LT 1 I bought from Berger, and imho, it was the best motor Chevy has produced.

Now those same engines in Desktop Dyno make anywhere from 400-500 hp. No wonder those old cars were so slow, they didn't have DD.

Not realy unbelievable, The auto dealers of the early 70's started using net HP figgures due to emissions and insurance reasons. In addition to the emissions standards getting tighter the insurance companies started charging a premium for high performance cars. The highest HP #'s for a camaro was 375 HP in the SS396 of 1970. From there all the numbers took a dive up untill recently.

How about the 427's in the 1969 Camaros?

There weren't any REAL, "off the showroom floor", '69, 427's back then, but there were handfull of COPO ordered jobbers!!

Depending on who you knew sorta deal...

And to this day, some of them are still around under Yenko and B/M badges!!

Great Muscle Cars to say the least nowadays!!

882 = smoggers with I believe 1.94, 1.6 valves 76cc chambers.

They are not very good.

Chads next door neighbor "THE MASTER OF CHEVYS" Dirtyscotty could have answered alot of these questions for him if he had have just waited a bit. Chads next response should be interesting.

A chassis dyno is the only real numbers you want to look at.... and start making thing's "faster" from there.

He just pulled the engine out today and is going to freshen it. For chads sake i was hoping there was gonna be a better set of heads but the engine sounded healthy before he pulled it. Definitely has a cam in it. Its a 4 bolt also which is good.
