Mwilson 12-08-2004, 10:48:00 PM Ive changed mine three times in the same day in the car! 1) Disconnect battery 2) remove the radiator/ drain coolant. 3) Remove fan/ Alternator / waterpump 4) Remove fuel pump (manual pump only) 5) Set motor on TDC Remove distributor, intake, valve covers. ( I set it on TDC now so when i reassemble the oil pump shaft will be alligned allready) 6) Remove pushrods, lifters 7) Remove crank pully, harmonic balancer, timing cover and gears. 8) Put cam gear back on use it to slide the cam out careful not to scratch cam brgs. 9) Stick a plastic trash bag over the lifter valley clean the intake gaskets off the heads scraping trash on the bag. 10)Lube it slide it in, set the cam at tdc and install chain. 11)You can trim the back edge of the timing cover so you dont have to touch the oil pan, maybe someone else here does it too they can post a pic of the lip trimed. 12)Install lifters, pushrods set the lash if its a hydrolic i always leave em a little loose couple thous until after start up and break in then i re adjust. 13)Set motor on TDC re-install intake, valve covers, drop dist in with the rotor pointed at #1 on the cap. 14)Put everything else back on refill coolant. 15)Fire it up wake up the neibors at 2000 rpm for 20 min check for leaks fuel, water, oil(watch your temp, but dont idle it any lower if it gets hot shut it down cool it and restart until 20 min has passed) burak sözer 12-11-2004, 04:31:00 AM Addition to Mwilson, brace on the radiator core support can be restrictive, you need to remove it too http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif mine wasnt had clearence for 1/2" 1978LT 12-11-2004, 06:21:00 AM <font face="Arial,Verdana" size="2">Originally posted by burak sözer: Addition to Mwilson, brace on the radiator core support can be restrictive, you need to remove it too http://www.nastyz28.com/ubb/wink.gif mine wasnt had clearence for 1/2"</font> Are you talking about the X brace? lol I can muscle it just enough out of the way on mine.
