I just read in another post where the lifter valley should be screened. I am going to use crane gold roller rockers on the new 406 so assume I should screen for protection. What screen should I use and how are you fastening it. Do you just screen the 2 main drain holes at front and back of the valley?Any info appreciated

Moroso makes this kit. The last one I used the epoxy was outdated though.

screens on the big drains, then tap and plug the drain holes above the cam.
I put them in, and later had a couple lifters explode due to too little preload. I recovered all the pieces from the lifter valley, nothing got down into the crankcase.
plugging the holes was great and the lifter valley baffle that I installed kept the lifters in their holes. Very happy with both items, and they cost pocket change during a rebuild.

Myself I screen the return holes above the cam unless it's a high rpm track motor only. On the street the cam and lifters will appreciate the oil wash down across the cam. True it does add parasitic oil around the rotating assembly, but a good pan, windage tray and scraper will take care of that. Like Blueyes said, if a lifter or rocker comes apart, it SURE is nice to find the pieces inthe lifter valley. Having them fall into the rotating assembly is very UGLY!

Thanks guys. With my f.t. cam I assumed you wouldn't want to plug those holes. I will screen all holes
