View Full Version : Edelbrock E.F.I
Analog-kid 12-04-2004, 11:44:00 AM Hey everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster here. Has anyone run Edelbrock's Pro Flow EFI on there cars? If so are you pleased with it? I am considering it for my 80 to replace the Torker II performer 600 setup I currently have. I really hate carbs.
Rick WI 12-04-2004, 11:52:00 AM Pro Flo works great for the price. I ran it on a mild 400 and on a 500 hp 383, with upgraded injectors. Nice system if you don't want to hassle with a laptop. If you are game for using a laptop a more modern system for a few bucks more would the the Holley 950.

Lowend 12-04-2004, 08:23:00 PM I've removed 3 of them from cars in the last 2 years... awful system.
With fuel injection you get exactly what you pay for. Why does the Accel Gen 7 DFI cost more than the Edelbrock?? Because the ECM is much more advanced

Okay, so what do you say to the Holley 950 then Brett ?
That's bad, because I was giving serious thought the Edelbrock Performer RPM EFI system for my new ZZ454. But, I'll wait to hear more opinions.
I've heard the Accels is a b*tch to program. Heard that from quite a few guys too. These are your regular garage guys too, not guys that get paid to know how to program this stuff and do it for a living.
I'm interested in whatever works best, so let it be noted I'm neutral here. I value all opinions, and I do know which members are quite knowledgeable.

Lowend 12-06-2004, 10:21:00 AM The newest Commander 950 system with all the software upgrades isn't bad... its a less intellegent copy of the FAST system.
The bottom line is that if you want EFI you have to use a laptop for programming, a little 4x6" LCD screen programming unit just dosen't have the ability to run the system properly.
The Accel system is pretty involved to program, but that is the point. You NEED to be able to control all of those perimeters to really make the engine run properly.
If you need something simplier than look at the FAST system, they are a bit easier to work with than DFI, but still a good system.

Rick WI 12-06-2004, 12:24:00 PM I stand by my original post having worked and tuned on EFI systems since the mid 90's. I also know for a fact the Pro Flo will work great on your 454.
Any of the systems out there will get the job done for you, each at a specific pricing point. Some features you need and some you don't.

Well Rick, I know you are well informed, and I know if you say it's good enough for my 454, then I trust it will be. I know you are very informed as well Brett, but I trust Ricks opinion also. Thank you both.
Final determination will be made later on. Edelbrock is still in my favorite spot though. In my opinion if it's too damn complicated then I may as well stick to a carburetor, I hate computers on cars. I like the KISS method. (K.eep I.t S.imple S.tupid)
I've been looking into the FAST systems as well. The DFI I've just heard is a royal PITA to program, and I deal with computers enough that I could be only happy if my car didn't need one as well.
Sorry for the somewhat thread hijack Analog kid, I just felt it was in reference to your question as well.
